I saw it somewhere - but I'm likely wrong. The $1.2K price sounds more likely than the $2.5.

I'm also wondering if the Oppo UDP-205 will have any of the following:
Lower output impedance for the variable output jacks Analog, rather than digital volume control Ability to drive low-impedance solid-state amplifiers directly without needing to go through a preamp More fully-balanced circuitry
The other threads don't seem to mention any of the above too much...

I should. We haven't had a circular argument thread in a couple days. In addition to the poll, please add a brail version of the photo... Mark Perhaps, I will 3-D print a replica of the pose?

The Nicki Minaj sized butt question is, considering the amount of channels needed to be output and the need for HDMI to pass those channels, is there really a need for the 205 over the 203. Perhaps it would be wiser to spend the cash on a processor with better DACs and bitstream to it.

Will stick with my 105

Hi milsap195 - I was initially tempted to stay with my 105 as well, but the purchase of a 4K, 3D TV this past year changed my plans. My previous TV (and the projector before that) could do wide-1080p at the most. But now that I have the ability to display the higher resolution, there's no reason (other than the price difference between my used 105 & the new 205) not to upgrade. I'm also hoping that the 205 will have some additional features that the 105 lacks. If nothing else, the new 205 promises a new audio DAC chipset of newer design and (hopefully) of higher fidelity. Might I be wrong to change? Obviously, I can't really say. The UDP-205 is still "vaporware" as of this time and there's no firm offer date even posited. Nevertheless, Oppo is a company that I have some confidence in (like Emotiva), and I'm expecting great things. Boom

Still no press from Oppo about the UDP-205. I'm waiting for the Oppo to see if they'll include MQA decoding. Yes? I'll get the Oppo. No? It'll be a Mytek Brooklyn for me. If they say that the initial release of the Oppo won't include MQA, but they'll be adding it via an online update, that's good enough for me too.

Have you sent Oppo an inquiry e-mail about any questions you may have? They are normally pretty quick to answer any questions if they can, about upcoming products, even on weekends.

I'm eagerly awaiting the 205. Oppo is consistent with making great products. The new ESS dac they are going to use has some impressive numbers,

Hi LCSeminole - As a matter of fact, I just sent them such an enquiry. Should they give a substantive answer, I'll post it here. Thanks for the idea! Boom

And Oppo says:
"The ability to support MQA decoding is something that we are looking into supporting, but we do not know at this time if we can add MQA decoding into our previous line of players, our current line of players, and out (sic) personal audio products.

I'm quite disappointed in Oppo. They made their reputation as being the most "cutting edge" disc-player company out there. Their BDP-105 model, for example, is still one of the best on the market despite its age. I had expected the new (and long-awaited) models to be similarly leading-edge. They're not. At 4x the price of the competition, Oppo needs to offer more than durability and the Oppo name to justify the price. If I find another brand 4-K player that offers the features I want (including MQA and DLNA over Ethernet), then I'll become a FORMER Oppo owner in a heartbeat.

I asked Oppo about the price of admission and was told via email that the 205 would be between $1199 and $1299. As to MQA, regardless of comment, it's a good idea to wait especially if you like Oppo. It's quite possible it will come with it.
Also, they say the release may come as early as March 2017 if all goes well.

Well, Oppo now states on their webpage that "April" is the release date for the UDP-205 but:
It's already March and they haven't opened their pre-order options yet No update emails have been sent to their mailing list No further details on features have been released
I'm suspecting that Oppo isn't going to make their April deadline, and that the 205 isn't going to be available until this Summer.
I hope I'm wrong...

I hope I'm wrong... It's only March 8 today. If I recall correctly, the 203 orders were opened up when they actually had initial stock. There really wasn't a real pre-order. April is quite possible. I personally will likely purchase the 203 mainly due to budgetary reasons, but I would like to see what the 205 has. If I get the 205, I will sell my 103 to help fund it. I was going to keep the 103 if I bought the 203. Move it to the bedroom.
