Been looking at options to control my PC via my Android tablet so I can run Tidal without turning on my projector.
Last night, I tried Google Chrome Remote Desktop. I like how it fully replicates the desktop and easily links up, but it is very sluggish in responding. Everything seems slow to respond...moving cursor, selecting anything, and worse yet...it is very hard to grab the sliding bar at the side of Tidal.
Any options to consider that are easy and solve the problems I found with Remote Desktop?
Note that I know I can play Tidal on my tablet, but I want to run Tidal on my PC via usb to my DAC...not connect my tablet via bluetooth.
Note that ability to control from outside the house is not needed...just need to control from my couch.
Thanks for any tips!
Mark

Was debating trying the microsoft remote desktop...Roon always sounds great until I see the price!
Have you tried MS's remote desktop?

Before I chose the Google Chrome version, I read the following: ARTICLENow I recall why I didn't try the MS version...need the pro version of Windows 10. Mark

Works well from Macs but the lack of real keyboard and mouse makes it halt a bit from iPads, albeit not sluggish in my home network I prefer a proper setup, like Roon or Squeezebox & LMS, where you have an app designed to work from a tablet (and/or smartphone).

Hmmm...this gives me an idea. I have a wireless keyboard. I wonder if I can view the screen on remote desktop on my Nexus but use the wireless keyboard to trigger the PC. Going to have to try that!
I would try the Microsoft app, but it looks like it would be $99 to upgrade my version for Windows to the pro edition.

Yes, you need Windows pro or similar. $99 is better spent on Roon then. LOL

Not since 2011 so my experience back then is not of any use for you.

If TeamViewer fixed it's security issues, it gets my vote. It's extremely responsive and simple to use. I have streamed 1080p video across my network at home without and lag, amazingly. It's also completely free for personal use.
I use it for my work machine, either PC to PC or Android phone to PC. It's quite easy to navigate with even a small screen.

Thanks for the input on it and the heads up on security. I got looking around and other than finger pointing on who was to blame, I found this useful article: --->LINKY<---I will try this one for sure. Mark

I know you are a big Sonos guy, why not just get a Sonos Connect? I have one (actually...two) and I use Sonos for everything BUT what I am looking to do...listen to Tidal Masters. For that, I have to play off my HTPC. Sonos plays Tidal and I have been using it heavily for that, but Sonos cannot access the MQA files Tidal has in their "Masters" section. I can play Tidal Masters from my HTPC to my high end system IF I turn on my projector and use my wireless keyboard/mouse to control the PC from my couch. I just want to avoid turning on the projector, having to wait for it to turn on, and burning bulb life just to listen to tunes. I'm going to try more options tonight to see how they work...esp. teamviewer. Mark

I think Roon would definitely be worth a look in your situation. It can use your Sonos units as Roon endpoints, and they have a software MQA decode function planned for release in a future build (which will perform the same software-end unpacking that the Tidal desktop app currently does). They've got a 15-day free trial, so there's nothing to lose in taking it for a spin

I am very happy with Sonos as my main player, other than this 1 aspect. And, at this point, MQA is a fairly limited thing...so, not worth me spending a lot of $ on. If MQA develops and becomes more common...sure...a possibility. But, right now, I have a HTPC sitting there that is paid for (and serves other needs, like being what I run Dirac on when I need to do that), and I can do what I want if I turn on my projector (or if I were to bother running ~20' VGA cable to a small monitor I have that I could put on a table next to my seating location). So, I'd rather just control the PC from my Android Tablet as that is aesthetically pleasing (vs. having another cable and another monitor/power cord)and avoids me turning on the projector. Net, thanks - but not interested in Roon for this particular need. Mark

That has a few I have not seen before. And I have windows 10 home edition. If I had pro, it would be easy with the native app.

So I tried teamviewer, and it seems to work well. So far, it looks like my solution.
As I have it set up, it seems to work well. I can use my tablet's touch screen and it works just like my tablet does, except I have to bring up the keyboard vs. it doing it automatically in a text box. Easy enough given how it is set up...very easy.
Initially, it wanted to send the audio into my tablet also. I just muted the tablet, but...it kept saying the resolution was too high and taking too much memory from my tablet...then it locked up. It appears (knock on wood) I found how to mute audio in the remote desktop session, and this has not happened yet again since I set that. I will have to run it more to confirm this works.
I had tried Google Chrome Desktop, and basically...it requires you use the "mouse" to type and even for simple things...you have to manuever the cursor to the right spot to start typing. That is a no-go.
There may be better options, but I think I found my solution. I will give it a workout to ensure it is...but, so far, so good!

I know you are looking for a tablet option; however, most including myself have secondary displays for when we do not want the projector on. I have a secondary monitor mounted between the projector and my rack. I also have a cpu monitor on a swivel mount next to me connected to my htpc so I can view it from the cou monitor, secondary monitor, or projector all with a press of a button.

I considered that many times, but the room layout doesn't make it very conducive. The teamviewer option is quite good, at least with how it is working so far. I can even skip using my wireless keyboard/mouse and do all functions from the tablet I would use the keyboard/mouse for. Mark
