Can anyone run my through how to install this so I don't brick my units? Thanks. The install instructions also can't be downloaded.
The install instructions are in that zip file I sent you. It's the 2nd .pdf file. If you can't open it for whatever reason, I've copy and pasted it below.
Just make sure you have nothing else but the file with the .dat extension on your USB stick.

Version 4.1 May 12, 2017
Firmware Update
Version: 4.1
Applies to:
XMC-1; All Units; All Previous Firmware Versions.
Purpose:
Updated the LOOK of the Menu and OSD (no borders).
Fixed Some Minor Bugs.
Level of Importance:
Recommended.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Some customers have previously received a BETA version of firmware v4.1.
The BETA version is NOT identical to this final edition and lacks some features.
Details:
Updates:
• New modern look for the front panel display and OSD (no borders).
Bug Fixes:
Several minor bugs were fixed (based on our testing and user input), including:
• Subwoofer crossover slope setting of 12 dB/octave now survives a cold boot.
• Setup with a single back speaker no longer allows “DSD Plus Backs” mode
(this mode is not valid with a single back speaker).
• Manual Lip Sync delay now updates on an input or bit-stream change
(the update under these conditions was previously inconsistent).
• With certain configurations, some users experienced a loud thump if they started Dirac, then
exited without taking any measurements; this has been corrected.

Instructions:
Note: This firmware update will NOT erase your current configuration settings, and so will
NOT require you to save and restore your configuration. However, we still recommend saving
your configuration settings before updating firmware or making any major changes to your
configuration settings.
Note: You will NOT be required to restore your XMC-1 to factory settings after performing this
firmware update.
The firmware update will be provided in the form of two files:
• The instruction file you are now reading (XMC-1_firmware_update_v41.pdf).
• The firmware update file itself (XMC-1_firmware_update_v41.zip).
Note: Your XMC-1 may be updated from any standard USB “thumb drive”. The USB drive you use
should be at least 1 gB in size, and should be formatted using a standard FAT32 format; avoid
multiple partitions or drives with permanently installed management software, and place the
file in the main folder on the drive. Either a USB drive formatted on a Windows computer or a
pre-formatted USB drive should work, and the file may be downloaded using either a Windows
or Apple computer, but USB drives formatted on Apple computers may not work.
If you wish to use a thumb drive formatted on an Apple computer to update your XMC-1, the
following Application Note (available for download from the same page where you downloaded
these instructions) will tell you how to change the settings on your Apple computer to allow it to
format a USB drive that can then be used to update your XMC-1:
• XMC-1_Firmware_Update_MacOSX.pdf
Note: ALWAYS erase any previous XMC-1 update files from the USB drive before copying new
ones to it - having multiple different firmware update files in the main folder of the same drive
may result in unpredictable behavior.
Note: DO NOT remove the USB drive or power down the XMC-1 while the update is in progress.
Note: If you are updating from a very old version of the XMC-1 firmware, CEC may be disabled
when this update is applied. If you use CEC, you may need to re-enable it after applying this
update.
