When VPI came out with their magdrive platter they initially tried to do a fully floating platter but found it was not sonically superior. Harry said he lost a ton of bass response by not having it coupled. So their magplatter is driven magnetically by the slave platter but still maintains a bearing. Just food for thought. I know this is a $500 entry table but perhaps an entry from a conventional type design wouldn't be superior.
