Hi,
New joinee in the forum.
Purchased BasX S12 from India and have been using it for a week. I have heard few other subs in the same price range before buying S12. The performance and build quality of this sub is much superior compared to other subs in the same price range. It is now well integrated to my setup. Music and movie experience is so much enjoyable.
AVR: Yamaha RX-V477 Fronts: Wharfedale diamond 220 Center : Wharfedale diamond 220c
These are the setting.
Crossover : YPAO set it 100Hz (I have changed to 80Hz ) Fronts and center speakers: "small" Sub level in AVR : +5db Volume : 50% Phase : 0 Crossover on rear of sub : LFE(Maximum) Please suggest if the above settings are fine.
There is no bass localization in either setting and S12 is adding plenty of bass and filling my living room. So far I am happy with the sub performance for both Movies and music.
Thanks, Sunil

Hi sunil - First, Welcome to the forum! So glad to have you here. I'm also glad to hear about your experience with the BasX S12. My experience with the sub was virtually identical to yours. I thought that the S12 was one of the best values I'd ever heard in a subwoofer. Your settings sound fine to me, but depending on the size of your other speakers, you might try compromising between the YPAO and trying 90 Hz? If you hear no difference, then go back to 80. Subwoofer PLACEMENT matters (a lot) in the quality of the bass. If the bass sounds "boomy" on some notes, moving the sub and then re-running YPAO can often make a difference. Enjoy your new sub and don't be a stranger! Boomzilla

Welcome to the Lounge and congrats on the new sub! Nothing wrong with your settings. The important thing is how it sounds to you. Enjoy!

Looks like ya got it! BTW, if you want to add two Basx S12 (not for volume which I assume you have plenty), be prepared to get some AMAZING soundstage. The dual subwoofers smooth out the bass humps and peaks in your room resulting in a smoother more palpable soundstage. I tried both. Going from one to two subs makes a difference that you won't expect!

Welcome Sunil, and congratulations for the recent addition of the S12 to your system. From what I have read of the Diamond 220, it is a very good match value-wise, Intriguing speakers those Wharfedale, with the front slot-loading and the tweeter with waveguide. Enjoy hanging around here. HUGE collective knowledge available!!

Thanks Everyone and happy to be part of a great forum with many experts.
The current placement of the sub is near FL. Haven't done subwoofer crawling or much experimentation with the placement.
I have couple of questions regarding the powering on: 1) Will it save lot of power if I keep the switch in "AUTO". Now I have kept it in "ON" so that sub is always on when use and will not go to standby mode. What is recommended? My preference is to keep it "ON" and somehow I don't like this "Standby mode-to-On" and "On-to-standby mode" switching happening during the usage.
2) There is a main power switch near power socket. I am switching it on every time and switching it off once used. Is this the right way of use or should I just leave the switch on always and use the main wall socket switch to power on and off?

While music playback I am able to get the feeling of bass from 2 fronts as if 220's have become much bigger speakers!. Wharfedale 220 freq response ( +/-3db) is 56Hz-20KHz 220c freq response (+/-3db) is 60Hz - 20KHz.

Did you claim that your sub turns off while your using it? Ive heard plenty of great things about your new sub, its also a great value! Once again, welcome! 🎶👍🎶

My two cents, the only reason not to use the auto-on feature is if it isn't sensitive enough to start up when it detects low frequencies. That can happen sometime but if it switches on when you play a source with low frequencies then it is easier to just leave it switched to auto-on. However, if you're not comfortable with that and prefer to manually switch it then there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

Now S12 is adding the detailed low end.

No, the sub is not turning off when use. I am using the always "ON" instead of "Auto-on". I will try "Auto-on" feature.

I don't think there's a reason to use the auto-on but if you want to, have at it. I like my eletronics turned on. Some benefit from the "warm up" some don't.

So you go around the room turning your subs all on before each use? Id rather utilize a signal detecting switch for such mundane things. Ive never noticed any significant improvement in my subs performance when allowed to warm up, then again I mostly use them for HT and on occasion for stereo.

But if I did, they'd be left on. I'm sure it's fine to use Auto-on.

Tesed the "Auto-on" feature last night and it is working perfectly fine. When the bass signal is nill/weak it is in standby and power indicator led is red. When the sub detects the bass signal it is getting on and led is blue. I will keep it in "Auto-on".

Hi sunil - I keep my sub in "auto-on" mode also. It does take a half-second to wake, but once on, it stays on for the remainder of the listening session or movie. Most excellent!

The BasX S12 has been missing from the website for quite awhile. Are you sure you’re weren’t looking at the Airmotiv S12 which is a different, and more expensive, subwoofer...? I don’t know why the BasX is no longer there, but your best option would be to email Emotiva directly to get the quickest answer to your question.
