Hey Guys, I'm trying to decide which of the following 7 channel amps to purchase for my soon to be dedicated media room. I've kind of narrowed it down to a new Emo XPA gen 3 for $1999, or a new Sunfire TGA-7401 for $3700, or a used Emotiva/Sherbourn PA7-350 for $1450.
If it helps, I'm going to run a pair of the Goldenear Reference up front and Goldenear in wall all around.
Any input or experiences you've had would be greatly be appreciated as to which is going to add the most bang for the buck.
Thanks...

Save a lot of coin and buy my UPA-7 for $600 It's 125x7 at 8 ohms and 185 x7 at 4 ohms. Otherwise I would go with the Sherbourn amplifier. Sorry if my opinion is too biased

Well I haven't used the Sunfire or the new Emotiva Gen 3 amps. I did have an XPA-5 before and now am using a Sherbourn PA 7-350. I can tell you that the Emotiva amps will not leave you wanting. They rock all day long and have ample juice to feed just about any speakers.
Below is my feedback based on your requirement of "which is going to add the most bang for the buck".
If you're budget conscious, the Sherbourn will be a great choice but if you can spare a bit more coin, the XPA is your ticket. Sunfire OTOH may not add sufficient value for the extra difference in price (and it is a big difference!).

I've got 16 years and counting of perfect power and service from A..... Sunfire multichannel amplifier. There is A BUT.....in there, that to be objective the production of those amps. has long since moved from the west coast over to China π¨π³. The reviews are still good, but I would get as much quality info as possible before purchasing. To that end, I've been keeping in touch with Bill Flannery, who worked for Bob Carver and does restoration/repair of the vintage units built here in the USA. Bill

I always try to buy used gear. Sure there's going to be risk but, in the aggregate, I've had excellent results. The savings over the years really add up.
If I were you, I would consider a used Emotiva.

Hey Bill, you just helped me decide... I don't buy anything from China when I have a choice. I'm even going to pay a $1000 more for a projection screen because my first choice is made in China. Thanks

I think the Sherbourn power is more than you will ever need, and I have multiple Sherbourn products that I absolutely love. That option would save you some money. Not in any way knocking the Emotiva as I have a ton of their equipment and wouldn't be in here if I didn't like the gear. From what I hear the Carver is fantastic but will not mesh well with every speaker.
Main thing, get what your gut tells you.
With the Emotiva amp you can take it home and listen to it for a month before you decide whether or not to keep it. In home trial period is a great perk, along with an actual warranty that neither of the others will come with.

Trust me.. the very last thing I think about when watching a movie or listening to music is. "Geez, this would sound so much better on new technology!" That kind of thinking leaves you on the fence rather than buying, forever. There's always something new coming. And yes, I do agree for processor you would want the latest stuff, or at least be able to upgrade to it.

I've owned the Sherbourn PA 7-350 amplifier for quite a few years now and I am still very happy with it. Tons of power, sounds great and never an issue.

Buy new XPA gen 3. U get to try it. U get the clean power, it does not get hot , it's lighter to lift, lower energy bill, and the warranty from EMOTIVA I am using my XPA Gen -3, 2 Chanels, to power a pair of Klipsch cornwall's along with a DC-1 n I could not be happier with the performance.

Hey Bill, you just helped me decide... I don't buy anything from China when I have a choice. I'm even going to pay a $1000 more for a projection screen because my first choice is made in China. Thanks Well the new XPA gen 3 has had some bad measurements from Stereophile with treble distortion starting at 15 khz @ 100 watts of power. So I can no longer reccomend it. I'm not saying that maybe there wasn't some mistake. But until it is clarified, it's off any reccomended list for me. I would pick the Sherbourne PA-7 350 all day long. It is essentially the unreleased XPR-7 with a humungous TORROIDAL power transformer (vs the switching power supply slightly bigger than a two coins on the XPA gen 3) and more capacitance than the XPA gen 3 models. An amazing amp! Also any unused power will be sent to the channels that need it. Not to mention reliability. The switching power supply is a new item of whose reliability we do not know though it's probably pretty good. But the torroidal transformers are known to be reliable for years if not decades of trouble free use. Just no messing around. This unit is an end game amp for surround sound imo.

I get your reasoning but... Would you actually hear the treble distortion at 15kHz? OTOH, your dog might!

check ebay. emotiva sells some refub gear (direct from emotiva, not a 3rd party) from time to time that include factory warranty at heavily discounted prices. i bought two XPA-1 monoblocks for less than 1/2 price compared to a new unit.
