Hey Guys,
So this is driving me nuts but I have the xmc - 1 attached to the arc hdmi input of my Panasonic TV and sometimes I don't know how but arc works other times I get no sound through the processor to the speakers but I can see that the "arc volume" OSD is working when I press the xmc 1 volume or the TVs remote
It's baffling
Any ideas ?

ARC is a damn mess - but not Emotiva's fault IMHO. I have a Visio TV connected to one of my XMC-1's. Worked perfectly from the day I set it up, then all of a sudden one day it stopped working. I finally realized it was immediately after the Visio TV 'upgraded' itself without my request or permission. Called Visio support and their response was 'tough'. No way to downgrade to the working version of the Visio firmware of course :-(. The next TV I buy is *NOT* being connected to a network, and if it works with the XMC-1 it's staying that way.
"Internet of sh*t", indeed :-(.

^What he said. Whatever Internet of Things will bring, it will not be self-healing me thinks. dinoprada, Try toggling inputs and see what happens. See if it magically re-syncs. Or not.

Over the years I read a lot of posts of people having issues with ARC. I never used it until recently and can confirm those stories. It worked fine, then stopping working after I unplugged the power to install an amp. Lot's of troubleshooting and got it to work again, only to stop working again after I had to unplug the power for amp troubleshooting. I was not able to get it working again and bought a 6' optical cable for $2 to use instead.

It amazes me how HDMI continues at almost every turn as ying and yang, the best and worst AV interconnect of all time, simultaneously.
Never mind its the worst physical connector I've ever seen. Total crap.
But I've not read much good over the years regarding the reliability of arc. Hence why I got a long toslink cable from Monoprice so I can use which ever works.

ARC isn't reliable. It's not Emotiva's fault.
I have no issues using two remotes - my XMC-1 remote and my "other" remote (Oppo/DirecTV/etc).

I'm convinced HDMI is the work of the devil. Toslink from the set works every time. To the OP if you must insist that ARC "work" you will need to clear the EDIDs from your HDMI chain. You can follow these steps and see if it works. Power down every device in the set-up (all sources since HDMI is a chain) for 10 to 15 minutes. (pull the power plugs!) Now switch the display on and select the HDMI channel connected to the XMC. Power the XMC back on. Now one by one, power on the source devices, starting with HDMI 1, HDMI 2 etc. Hopefully everything will sync up and ARC will be working again. (until the next EDID corruption that is) Isn't HDMI fun? ...if that doesn't work you may have a bad cable. (most likely a bad pin on the HDMI cable) Or if it isn't that the panny is still holding correcupted data even after 10 mins of not being plugged it. Try a reboot by pressing and holding the front power button on the front of the TV for several seconds until it reboots.

Worked great with my Sony. Can't get it working with my LG. As someone mentioned, optical is the sure bet.

ARC is indeed a mess. I couldn't get it to work with my Samsung then one day I tried it and it worked. Then after a few days it stopped and I could not get it going again. I gave up and went optical from the TV to the XMC.

Yes, I can confirm my previous post doesn't help. ARC is currently, once again, inoperable. The previous post doesn't work so I removed it to avoid any confusion.
Perhaps one of these days the media police will figure out that 99% of us are not pirating content. Many are just streaming it through subscription based, legitimate services. One day we may be unable to playback tangible media. Don't know many with stand along HD recorders (actually don't know anybody). Once VHS became obsolete consumer recording devices became proprietary (Tivo, Dish, DirecTV). Sure there are some DVD recorders, but those never sold like VCRs. Piracy is much more difficult due to the lack of hardware to support it. HDMI is virtually unnecessary since so much content is readily available on demand and through subscription based options. VOD curtails the need, or desire, to copy content and yet the movie industry continues with increased security!

Hello Guys, is there anything that needs to be set (inputs, outputs) on the XMC for ARC to work? I read in the manual that CSC needs to be enabled. Is this it?
Thanks!

Hello Guys, is there anything that needs to be set (inputs, outputs) on the XMC for ARC to work? I read in the manual that CSC needs to be enabled. Is this it? Thanks! It’s “CEC”. While it would be nice to have ARC without CEC (and like those above I’ve had it occasionally work), but yes, Emotiva says you need to enable CEC for ARC to work properly (which still may or may not happen).

While it would be nice to have ARC without CEC (and like those above I’ve had it occasionally work), but yes, Emotiva says you need to enable CEC for ARC to work properly (which still may or may not happen). I've never been able to get any combination of any ARC/CEC features to work consistently on any such enabled equipment. I've only been successful in getting the "Input Change" feature to work at this point with the XMC-1. Though admittedly I've only tried ARC and volume features with my TV(which don't work) and haven't tried to use it with the Oppo UDP-203 yet. ARC, to me, is conceptually a great feature that never seems to work in my situation, luckily I have a streamer(ATV4K) that, as of recently, fulfills all of my wants, so no need for my TV apps to be sending back inferior audio to the XMC-1. As for "eARC" in the upcoming HDMI 2.1 spec, I'll believe it works when it actually works consistently in all setup combinations of equipment and that would be because the home theater industry is using the same set of protocols industry wide. Below is a link to a really good article on HDMI 2.1 and it's specs, "eARC" being one of them. www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/hdmi-explained-everything-you-need-to-know-news-specs/
