I'm quite sure this is a silly question, but I just wanted to verify before I purchase: will the Emotiva MC700 handle a "phantom center"/4.1 situation? Thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can give on this!

Thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can give on this! Any current owners correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure you can simply select "No" for the center channel in the GUI, this is how this was done in the UMC-200. From there the center channel information gets sent to the front left and front right for simulating the phantom center.

I remember my old Onkyo receiver had settings to widen or narrow the stereo field for a phantom Center. Looks like it is automatic now when you select no center channel.

Probably standard 5.1 > 2.0 mixdown requirements so no information is lost ;just an educated guess . Sounds like your onkyo was using some dolby dsp tricks from pl2x music which I imagine the MC700 has like the 200.

Yes, I ran a phantom center for a month or so to then compare to having the center.
