Hello all, Ordered my XMC-1 today. I haven't been this excited about any new piece of audio/video sense I got my old B&K Ref 50 and Sherbourn 7/2100. I still use the amp but have added an Emotiva XPA 5. I use it bi-amp to my front mains and bi-wired to the center channel. The Sherbourn handles the four surrounds as well as front height speakers, which will soon go away. I never realized an improved front imaging or soundstage from them.
I made the mistake of selling the B&K for an Onkyo Pro PR-SC5508 and never been happy. I only did it to get the newest HDMI. In hind site, I should have just bought an HDMI switcher. But, here I am with a "dead again", Onkyo. I'll have it repaired AGAIN and try to get a few bucks for it. Dang thing sure did depreciate fast. That's another reason for the XMC-1. Hope to be buried with it still playing some Zepplin.
As I said, Excited. Started reading the XMC-1 owner manual a few weeks ago. Funny, reading about Dirac prompted me to run the Audyssey MULTEQ XT32 on the Onkyo and that was the end of the Onkyo. No audio output, AGAIN.
Set up will be straight forward for me as I am only feeding it my OPPO BDP-103D and the Xfinity DVR. As I was reading the owners manual, I started working out in my head how I would have to set up the Harmony One. All the little workarounds like assigning inputs to buttons and then adding them in to activities. THEN THIS WONDERFUL thing happened. I started reading in "The Lounge" and found the great work that was completed with Harmony to get everything functional. Icing on the cake for sure.
One thing I think I will miss is SoftMute. Does anyone know if this is something that could be done in firmware or would it involve a change to the circuitry in the volume control?
Anyway, Thanks ahead of time for all the answers to questions I'm sure I'l have coming up. How long it will take to get to Pensacola FL? I want it NOW!!

B&k made solid equipment. Its a shame that the Ref 70 killed them.

Well, it looks like a 6 1/2 hour drive, but since it's straight downhill (at least on my map) it could be quicker. Accounting for the jetstream, the fact we're not due a podcast for at least two more weeks, and the fact you seem unreasonably excited - The XMC-1 will arrive the day before you receive notice it shipped.

You should have a lot of fun. The Audyssey implementation in the 5508 sounds very meh... Even the UMC-200 is better SQ-wise, the XMC-1 is another step up.

Nothing like setting up new equipment that is a substantial upgrade to previous. Not to trash Onkyo at all; just that the XMC will be a major upgrade in audio quality and you may also find, if you used the Onk for vid switching, the XMC has a MUCH better video board. Scott

First impression. Unbelievable! Ran Dirac this AM, house was so quiet. Everything went perfect. Time to try it out. Right away, clarity of voice from the center channel just listening to Fox News was astounding. (it was always muddy) Flipped to the OPPO where I had previously had a Herbie Hancock CD when my Onkyo was working and DAMN!! This ain't happening? Really? Hey guys, I wear hearing aids so that I can understand people in our meeting room. It's important, as a production supervisor, to understand what the plant manager wants. This AM, without the aid of the aids, Clarity! Astonishing. Detail in the sound stage. Imaging, WOW! I paid as much money for that damn Onkyo just a few years (5 years I think) ago as I did for the XMC-1. the Onkyo is pure sh** in comparison. That Audyssey XT-32 and the Onkyo Pro are just not capable of doing what he Dirac and XMC-1 can do. Happy, Happy, Happy I think a "Lord of the Rings" test is called for.

Man, the OPPO BDP-103D makes a great companion to the XMC-1. Watched a few scenes from "Fellowship" beginning with Moria. From there to the end. Amazing dynamics. My subs have never been tighter. They just disappear and the whole house, all 3200sf became those caves. WOW!! Never loud. Not loud sounding, just enveloping. That's the word. Clear dialog, razor sharp cracking stone bridge, Real authority, low rumble of Bolrog all around with a clear presence in my house. Now, my go to test LP. Bad Company - Bad Company. At every listening level, detail, sound stage, separation, layers, dynamics. Just one happy, happy guy right now. "Now you fly, through the sky, Never asking why"

Just make sure the ears don't start to bleed!😂
