What am I supposed to do, unplug it whenever I'm not using it?? Weβre going to need a little more information to help you our new friend. What piece of gear are you asking about? It would help to have all your associated gear listed. Here to help! ππ

Thanks. I'm referring to the XPS-1 preamp, which is what I thought this thread was about. I'm not sure the other equipment is relevant. I have it between my turntable and powered speakers. I don't want it on when I'm not using it and the only way to turn it off seems to be to unplug it. Not very convenient.

OK, Ive never considered turning off the XPS-1 as it draws such little power, a 9 voplt battery can and has been used. You could consider plugging it into a remote controled plug. My unit was behind my rack so the power light never bothered me. I do like the unit very much though.

It sounds good cold but even better warm.

Come to think of it, none of the phono stages I have ever owned had and on/off switch...I never noticed that until this thread.

Fantastic machine, the M-5: no off-switch.

My Jolida JD-9 has an on off button which is to be expected since it has tubes in it.

Never thought about this prior to reading this thread but the Little Ego is connected to the USB bus on my computer. Damn!!! I'll never be able to get this out of my head that it's sitting there trying to 'DAC' and all the while getting ignored!!! Not sure how I'll ever be able to recover from this.

Mine has been plugged in and on for like 3-4 years now. No issues.

You can just leave it on or plug it into a device like the Adcom ACE-515 you can buy used on Ebay. I use one and it allows you to hook it up so it will turn on and off different components in the proper order. Cost about$75 to $100 but they work great and also act as a AC filter.

Pre might sound better after being 'on' for a while. If you can completely power down, you have a half hour or more to wait while pre gets to 'best' operating temp.
Just leave it on, and MAYBE the wall-wart into a switched outlet, which wouldn't be my first choice. I'm sure total power draw is <5 watts no matter what. Not listed in specs.
