All the things humans can accomplish and we drop the ball on ARC . This should be such a no brainer, i have trouble fathoming why they cant make this work. Its an audio output on the tv and an input on the receiver . I dont even use mine and it works ,go figure. Perhaps the new board will be out soon, like q9 2018

I got the LG B7, XMC, and ARC works fine with both. I do like Emotiva to release the v3 board already. what happened to the xmc1 gen3 with atmos and fully balance l, c, r channels? Hello goodfellas can you tell me which HDMI board version your XMC-1 has got? I have the original HDMI 1.4a board. I have the OPPO 205 and PS4 Pro connected to the LG B7 65" TV. The TV is sending the audio back to xmc1. In the XMC-1, I have HDMI control on with everything checked, except TV Audio. The HDMI cable is on output 1 in XMC1 and HDMI 2 in LG. Select ARC in HDMI audio input in the XMC --if it doesn't work, call Emotiva. make sure you have HDMi control on both ends, turn the TV on first then XMC1.

I tried several other settings in HDMI CEC, different HDMI cables (even a new one which is HDMI 2.0b compliant) and also experimented with the setting in the TV. No luck.

I think I saw that you connected the TV ARC to an output on the XMC, is that correct? I believe you should try and think of the TV as an audio OUTPUT and connect to an XMC INPUT, unless those were typos.

No , the ARC works exactly like that, it Audio Return. the audio comes back to the XMC over the very same cable that is sending video to the tv.

With my mid range Samsung panel to get ARC to work I needed to;
Use a high quality current generation HDMI 2.0 cable with ARC support specified.
Use the HDMI output on the Samsung that is labelled âARC Ouputâ.
Use the HDMI input on the UMC-200 labelled âARC Inputâ.
Turn on ARC in the SetUp menu on the Samsung.
Turn on CEC in the SetUp menu on the Samsung.
Select the ARC return input on the UMC-200.
The CEC requirement was the surprise for me, WTF has ARC got to do with CEC? But it does in this case. The lesson the manual doesnât tell you everything, you may need to try a web search, you canât be the first one to hit the problem.
Cheers Gary

I just connect the Toslink out from the LG TV to the XMC-1, and feed the video sources into the LG TV. It's a bit of a pain, but I spend 90% of my 4k time on DirecTV, so I don't switch that often. The LG OLEDs have decent streaming apps, so I tend to just use those for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.
Once in a while, I can get the DirectTV or LG remote to control the XMC-1 volume, but it's hit and miss. Gotten to the point where I need to unplug the XMC-1 to get it to work, so I don't bother anymore. I actually like the XMC-1 remote, so I use it for volume.
Works fine, but I will definitely purchase the new 4k board when it comes out.

ARC is part of CEC - and will not work unless CEC is enabled (this is normal - but don't ask me WHY either). Exactly. And you do have to make sure to use the output and input that are LABELLED as supporting ARC - it won't work on the others. Also, since it may not be obvious at first, note that you can ONLY use ARC for audio from sources that "originate" at the TV ot that connect directly to it. For example, you can use ARC to listen to audio from content playing via Apps on your TV - like Netflix. And, you can use ARC to listen to audio from a Roku or Fire Stick IF IT'S CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO AN INPUT ON THE TV. But you CANNOT use ARC to listen to audio from your Blu-Ray player that's connected to one of the HDMI inputs on your XMC-1. Why? Well, since the XMC-1 would normally be playing that audio, the XMC-1 "strips out the audio part of the signal" before passing the HDMI on to the TV. So the audio is never reaching the TV. And, since the audio never reaches the TV, the TV CAN'T sent it back through ARC..... Right? (So it might work - but there won't be anything there.) No , the ARC works exactly like that, it Audio Return. the audio comes back to the XMC over the very same cable that is sending video to the tv.

I've never succeeded in getting ARC to work with my 2016/2017 vintage Samsung TV either... But both CEC and ARC are notorious for between-brand compatibility foibles. Toslink ALWAYS works on EVERYTHING (as long as your input supports surround sound formats). Note that some manufacturers refer to CEC by other names - for example Samsung tends to call it "AnyNet" on a lot of models. So, on a Samsung TV, you tell it to "search for AnyNet devices". Supports for CEC and ARC is also often erratic.... My Samsung TV does NOT see my XMC-1 as "an AnyNet device". And ARC does not work between them. Yet I have a Samsung 4k disc player connected to my XMC-1. And the disc player DOES automatically turn on the TV and switch the input on my XMC-1 when I press PLAY. So SOME CEC functionality is working both to and through my XMC-1. Also note that CEC is priority dependent.... which means that it may act differently depending on which device you turn on FIRST. I just connect the Toslink out from the LG TV to the XMC-1, and feed the video sources into the LG TV. It's a bit of a pain, but I spend 90% of my 4k time on DirecTV, so I don't switch that often. Ok, so I have a related question. I thought I knew the answer but now I'm not sure.
I have the old UMC-200 and a 5.1 system but am looking to upgrade. I'm waiting for the XMC to get the upgraded HDMI board but in the meantime I was looking to replace my old Samsung Plasma set with a new LG OLED. I was under the impression that if you're not trying to watch UHD content then everything would be fine and I could watch all of my current input sources on the new set without problems. I don't currently have any UHD content (just standard 1080p and Blu-Ray audio/video sources) but just wanting to upgrade equipment for the day I do.
So the question is, will I have to use the ARC channel as described in this thread to get my current 5.1 audio decoded on the UMC until I get the XMC?
Thanks,
Mark

No just connect your umc200 to your new TV and you are good to go for non 4k content.

Will the OPTICAL out pass the desired signal or just stereo / PCM?
Since I have just a stereo, and am indifferent to all the multi-channel formats, I use the optical out from the TV to get to my stereo.
I have a OLED set that does have ARC but never tried to get it to work, having no need.
