I just purchased an A300 and it does exactly the same thing, I need to call them. It is actually really annoying, and loud. Did everyone with the same problem just send the amp back? Thanks

I also just purchased an A300 and it has the same issue. Is this something that we should return it for, is it going to get worse or cause problems further down the road?

This stuff is really strange. I've had my a300 for over three years with no fan problems. Ordered direct from emotiva.

Just to give everyone a follow up on my amp and the noise.
I spoke to Emotiva about it and they acknowledged that some of their amps had this issue and could have been a bad batch of something in the amps but would not go into detail.
Either way they sent me a brand new amp no questions asked and paid for the return of the other one.
Have not had a lot of time on the new amp but so far so good.
Great customer service!

I purchased the A-300 amp a week ago and it has been totally silent. I am more than pleased with it in every respect.

Some Class A/B amplifiers have great big heat sinks - and no fans... And some have little tiny heat sinks - and enormous fans that sound like a jet taking off... Most of our amps have no fans... but a few, including the A-300, have small fans that spin when the amp gets warm.
Likewise... Some cars go "grumble... grumble... grubble..." when they idle... And some go "whirrrr...." Electrics don't make any sound at all when they're sitting still (except for the ones that have fans)... And, with some hybrids, the engine cycles on and off when you sit at a traffic light...
And, yes, most of our bigger and more expensive amps have more heat sinks, and no fans. And, yes, fans are cheaper than huge heat sinks - and also lighter.
Amplifiers with fans are also less particular about having lots of clearance around them (convection cooling is more needful of unobstructed air flow).
It so happens that, because of the way the thermostatic control in the A-300 works, the fans sometimes make a slight noise when they're not spinning. (We didn't really think the noise would be noticeable at all, but, since it does seem to bother a few people, we're looking into ways to minimize or eliminate it.)
In the mean time, if it really bothers you, then a different amp would probably be a better choice for you.
This is very sad. The sound and the price for it are excellent. But something is not properly designed. My amplifier A-300 is now under repair, waiting for an answer. While listening to another system. Going to buy Stealth PA-1. Are the fans of a standard type that could be replaced with fans intended for a computer? There are plenty that are designed to be really quiet. Just wondering. Thanks!

It's doubtful that you'll hear them. If they function the way they're supposed to (the way mine do) they won't turn on under normal operations. For perspective, I use this amp in my bedroom. I have in the past driven the amp hard enough to get the fans to come on. The only noise they made was from the air current (and you couldn't hear them when the music was playing).

Does anyone know if there was any kind of running change on the fans that resolved this, or just down to luck of the install? Has anyone resolved the noise with these fans?
In my case I've just received an A-700 (BF deal factory renewed, looks like DHL caused it some slight injury in shipping, but that's another matter); the amp seems to work well and sounds lovely, but I caught last night making the same hissing / digital noises from the fans as shown in the video above when I went in the cabinet to check temperatures (unit was pretty much cool to the touch)...
I guess I'm "lucky" in that my install isn't getting warm enough for the fans to actually be needed, but it is warm enough for the fan control circuit to be sending them some level of voltage which causes the fans to exhibit this undesirable characteristic.

I have exactly same noise problem. Have anyone replaced the fans? I didn't get any further with this as Emotiva replaced the unit with another that doesn't appear to do it. There is a video on Youtube of someone replaceing the fans in their A300... follow at own risk! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElmdBj7J7Ys

Thanks, I also found that same video, but luckily I agreed with retailer that they will send the unit for warranty repair, I hope that I get working unit back soon.

Very new to this topic. Glanced through this thread.
If the fans are bothersome, why couldn't they be unplugged from the circuit board that feeds them?

Very new to this topic. Glanced through this thread. If the fans are bothersome, why couldn't they be unplugged from the circuit board that feeds them? They could, but if they're making noise then they're running. And, if they're running it's likely because they're needed. And, if you overheat your amp it'll void your warranty if something goes wrong.

Is this still an issue with the current production run? I'm getting ready to buy one but this issue is a concern especially if I use it to replace my vintage Denon in my living room.

We are going on 3 years with this particular amp having this issue in some of the product. Why hasn't Emotiva addressed this with a part or design change? This is a design issue and a consistency issue.

So for those that are stuck with this issue and their unit is out of warranty? Is there a resolution to it? Can the end user change the fans with a pair of brandnew ones and the annoying sound would go away? If so, Can anyone tell what KIND and the specs..Ty

They want me to have my unit sent In for Non-Warranty Repair..and charges a lot. I mean, hi-speed ultra quiet 2-Pin fans are about $13.00 (2-Pack) - I just needed to know if it will address/fix that noise problem..Also, I tried asking the model of the OEM fans installed on BasX300 and they won't disclose it..
