Hi, I found my umc-1 inm my garage and I am trying to set it up. It seems to work ok. Just have a couple of questions. 1) pls, can anyone pass me the manual in .pdf? 2) i never updated the firmware..should I?, what benefits will I get? if yes, where can I download the latest firmware? what are the steps involved in updating the firmware? will it work with windows 8.1 or windows 10? my firmware is: w7.04.00.07 3) i am trying to set up the audio that comes out of my pc... 3.1) PC (out): hdmi from AMD card > umc-1 (hdmi 1 in) 3.2) in umc-1 I selected the hdmi 1 input 3.3) in umc-1 (in speaker configuration) I selected F, L, C, Br, Bl and Br. The problem I have is that in windows10 -after setting up 5.1 in audio devices(hdmi)- those back channels do not play any sound. I rechecked umc-1 setup, and discovered I can only activate those back channels if I also activate Sourrounds(l+r). But I do not have any Sourround speakers! Funny thing is if I select in windows 7.1, my Br and Bl do play sound when testing within windows audio devices/umc-1. But also then, when I play a 5.1 or 7.1 test from youtube back channels do not play sound. So, how should I select the speakers in umc-1 for a 5.1 setup (f+c+r+br+bl)? Rgds Rafa

I just deleted my PDF copy of the manual, but you should be able to get that from Emotiva. Their website refresh ended up losing links to a lot of things, but I would bet KeithL could help with that. On the FW - which version is yours running now? On the other question...it's been too long for me to recall that and I never had that scenario myself. Hopefully others can help. Mark

I've got a PDF of the manual - how do I send it to you? re: So, how should I select the speakers in umc-1 for a 5.1 setup (f+c+r+br+bl)? I have always found the nomenclature of the "back" vs. "surround" speakers confusing and a poor choice. In any case, from looking at the manual itself, p. 38, it appears that the surround speakers in a 5.1 setup refer to those listed as "surround". The "back surrounds" come into play only for 7.1 setups. So, connect your speakers to the Surround Speakers outputs not the back ones. Hi, I found my umc-1 inm my garage and I am trying to set it up. It seems to work ok. Just have a couple of questions. 1) pls, can anyone pass me the manual in .pdf?

If it's less than 3 GB, then just "reply", click "add attachment", and you should be able to include it via that in a post. Mark

Thx both of you for your help. I downloaded the manual. Great! I will try this 5.1 setup choosing only the sourround L+R. Will test and report back if I have any problems. Rgds.

Exactly.... It's just "industry protocol"..... No processor I know will allow you to select "Rear Surrounds but no Surrounds". If you have one pair of surrounds then they are "Surrounds" - whether they are on the side or the back. (And, on most systems, if you configure the system for "7.1", then connect rear surrounds but not side surrounds, and then run automatic room correction, you will get an error.) A similar situation exists with the Size setting for your speakers. In home theater speak, ANY speaker for which you want to use Bass Management is "Small", and ANY speaker you plan to run full range is "Large". So, if you have huge tower speakers, and you plan to run them down to 40 Hz, but still use a sub with them, then you must set them to "Small". And, if you have really small full range desktop speakers, they get set to "Large". Thx both of you for your help. I downloaded the manual. Great!
