Just wanted to introduce myself.. I've been on the forum a few weeks .. I live in Broussard La (born and raised in the area). I spent 20 years on active duty in the US Navy from 87-07 (weather forecasting and oceanography). Worked for DoD pretty much since retiring. Currently with the Army Corps of Engineers (Hydrographer). I'm 56, and have been married for nearly 30 years to a beautiful Venezuelan bombshell. We've got two kids.. and a grandchild. Our youngest is in the AirForce .. he's 24. Our daughter is 26 and married to a sailor .. he's a dog handler, and in Iraq. I was an avid music lover in my teens.. very typical of the times (early 70s to mid 80s). I had a nice little "hifi", listening to albums and cassettes for hours and hours. Joining the Navy and then family life, seemed to end the hobby, and for many years my listening was basically limited to background music. A few months ago, an article I came across by the Audiophiliac (on CNET) got me thinking about 2 channel music again and how I really missed it .. I had given away all my gear years ago (some good stuff too.. and all my vinyl). I really wanted a small setup for my spare room and began a search for gear.. I stumbled upon Emotiva gear through many "Budget Audio" searche, joined the forum, and have enjoyed catching up with music. I was basically the stereotypical 70s kid.. really into rock (Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, Aerosmith, ELO, Toto, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Heart, etc). Still love the music.. but now I'm really interested in listening to more Jazz and beautifully recorded music. I've discovered some great stuff. My new audio setup is below. Considering I only paid 200 for the speakers and 200 for amp/preamp, I feel it's a great little setup. Later on, I plan to add an Emo preamp and amp. Ordering a Little Ego soon as well. I've got a lot to catch up on Looking forward to meeting you folks .. most of all, please excuse my stupid questions.. I'll post them in the appropriate spot lol. I'll have a few David Sonnier

Welcome, nice to have you here! I enjoy Steve Guttenberg over at Audiophiliac as well, interesting thoughts from a guy who loves music and well reproduced sound.

I'll have a few David Sonnier Nice introduction David.....! Right from the start, we’ve had some good exchanges. This is an excellent forum, well ordered, moderated just right and is diverse enough to keep most of us audio nuts 🥜 occupied. The essential’s of analog have not changed all that much while you were out of it. The Digital domain along with the newest format wars has been the big one. Bill

This is an excellent forum, well ordered, moderated just right and is diverse enough to keep most of us audio nuts 🥜 occupied. The essential’s of analog have not changed all that much while you were out of it. The Digital domain along with the newest format wars has been the big one. Bill From late 80s onward, I've bought quite a few CD, and did a lot of ripping to hard drives to play music in my cars, from laptops at work, or while deployed.. and nearly always through the laptop speakers or cheap externals (terrible I know) I'm someone who has no problems with CDs and lossless sound files.. I don't have enough nostalgic attraction to turntables to buy another , and my ears are kinda shot from being 56 and many years in high noise environments. But I really miss holding a big LP and looking through the liner notes while spinning the vinyl. Those were fun times. Last night I was kicked back in my room on the workboat, had an awesome album streaming [Chester and Lester] and I felt so good to just enjoy a really well recorded album to listen to. This stuff predates me, but I was a little too young to appreciate that kind of music back then. Thanks for the nice words. David
