With the XMC-1's V3 board finally readied for its imminent release, it seems to me that the Atmos/DTS-X board has now become the "final frontier" update for interested parties who would like to bring their XMC-1s up to speed.
This thread is meant to help us monitor the process of the countdown to that Atmos/DTS-X update's release. I'm personally interested in *both* the V3 and Atmos/DTS-X updates, but I would like my XMC-1 to make only one trip to Franklin for the two, and that is why I am anxious to know when the Atmos... will be ready...
So let's get on with the monitoring... asking related questions, politely, and welcoming any helpful input that Emotiva authorities would like to contribute, whenever possible, in order to make the waiting more bearable,.

I would like to know the current pricing for both upgrades including shipping.
Currently the site lists this:
So is the price $399 + $599 = $899?
There used to be a discount listed for both upgrades that I remember to also be $899 before the HDMI board price went from $499 to $399.

Any news on whether the Atmos/DTSX board can be fitted by Distributors, it's long way to Franklin?
Cheers Gary

Somewhere it was said that the final DSP chips were going into production in April. According to a crony of mine in the chip business, time from start of fab to finished product in the customers hands is about four months. That would put delivery of the new board (and RMC-1) out to about August or beyond.

I’m with you I’ll wait (excitedly) and just send it in one time for both upgrades. It will also be time for me to add an amp to power the extra channels.

Any idea of how many Atmos channels will be supported on the XMC-1 once released? I am basically interested in the V3 HDMI board and adding 4 height ATMOS channels. The RMC-1 looks awesome but, not sure I need 16 channels. When both are available, I plan to send my unit in as I have a very early XMC-1 unit and a factory look with the (V3 and ATMOS upgrade makes sense)

That would be perfect, gives me time to hunt down the last XPA-1L I need for my setup while I wait for the board updates.

Somewhere it was said that the final DSP chips were going into production in April. According to a crony of mine in the chip business, time from start of fab to finished product in the customers hands is about four months. That would put delivery of the new board (and RMC-1) out to about August or beyond. If a new version of the chip requires an "all layers" change, i.e. a full production cycle, then 16 weeks/4 months might be an appropriate timeframe. However there are actions that can mitigate this. A new design can be "hot lot" or "hand carried" through a fab to accelerate the production cycle. It comes at a cost but may be done to get an earlier look at new silicon. The question though is whether an all layer change is required given how long this silicon has already been available for evaluation by both ADI and alpha/beta customers and already shipping in some form in a Marantz product. I suspect that a full layer change is not required and that ADI is spinning the silicon for higher speed and automotive temperatures per my post here which might only be a function of a redesign of some metal interconnect layers that take place at the end of the chip production process. Note that the ADI silicon may already be capable of both 500MHz and automotive temperature range, but just not yielding die in high enough numbers to allow ADI to market, thus requiring ADI to spin the silicon. If this is the case then ADI is likely to have some partially produced wafers ready for the new changes to be applied in what is know as "staged wafers" which avoids having a full 16 week production cycle. So where does all this hypothesis/guessing get us? Well the new silicon might only require 6-8 weeks vs 16 weeks (perhaps even less if expedited) for wafer production, package assembly, test, mark and pack plus shipment ... and of course we don't actually know when ADI started this cycle of new silicon production. We need to add to this timeframe Emotiva's and probably other customers evaluation of the new silicon, i.e. customer acceptance/approval. In other words yes it could be months away but there's a good chance IMHO it won't be.

So did they build the discount into the V3 board, or will there still be $100 off for having both installed at the same time?

Better off buying a new XMC for $2999 - 40% (if you have card discount, I still have two LOL) for $1799.40 and selling your existing XMC. If you're going to pay $899 it makes a new XMC $900 and a you get a new warranty...and don't have to worry about shipping it back for ATMOS or the HDMI board swap.

I am sure there will be some who do choose a new XMC-1 and use their 40% off card and sell their existing XMC-1. Based on what I've seen, we've not seen a firm price on the new XMC-1. We've only seen pricing on the upgrades to the old XMC-1. So, your math may be off but your point is well taken. Also, I suspect there are very few 40% off cards remaining (but there are a lot of folks like me still in the 25% off UFL program!). Mark

Strangely, the podcast from 30th March has disappeared!
I saw it last night and it was entitled something like "All about the new HDMI V3 board for the XMC-1"
I didn't have time to listen to it then, and this morning it has mysteriously been taken down and the most recent podcast is the 9th March one.
Did anyone get a chance to listen in?

Did anyone get a chance to listen in? It's probably all part of Nick's plan: - Make sure a podcast goes up with all sorts of good and juicy information,
- Make an announcement that most of the staff will be at AXPONA, and you won't really be able to reach anyone at Emotiva during that time frame LINK- Nobody home during AXPONA,
- Magically make the juicy podcast disappear
- Generate lots of activity, buzz, and rumors (the thing we all thrive on).

Dear LCSeminole,
That was worth asking for! Some great stuff in the podcast including a major teaser about Emotiva product announcements later in 2018.
I can't see why it was taken down - only good stuff and encouraging honest news in there.

Not sure what link that was taken down, but you can always just go to the "Emotiva Product News & Updates" and go to the link in the "PodCast: Past & Most Recent" thread. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/24934/podcast-past-most-recent
