Hoping a 'longer time' XMC-1 owner can help.
I cannot get 2.1 stereo to engage (the .1 part). I have gone through the manual and searched posts here and AVS forum. From everything I've read, it should work if I'm using stereo mode. Or not...
- Using the USB Streaming input from my Mac Mini with Roon - Mode is Stereo - The subwoofer will engage if I'm in PLIIx Music or Movie mode - Subwoofer engages when using the blu-ray player or streaming from Apple TV - I have not run Dirac yet
I'm still new to this preamp and have really just started to dig into it recently. It seems I'm missing a specific setting.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

Are your speakers set to "small"?

If your speakers are set to large, nothing will engage the sub.

On page 53 it says if you have the front speakers set as large you will be able to use enhanced bass which uses the sub and the speakers low frequency drivers. I have not tested this but worth a shot if you do indeed have your fronts set to large , in which case the sub would only work for the LFE channel content during movies. Dont confuse the LFE with the sub bass content which are 2 entirely different signals.

I had been playing around with the setting for Large and Small and wasn't getting the sub to work unless I had it on PLIIx mode. I do understand LFE content is different than sub bass content. Even with the huge speakers I have, I think the sub really helps the low end and gives it a fuller sound. Again, I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

I dont use my XMC-1 for 2 channel though i have had long conversations with myself about the whole enhanced bass/lfe large small settings. Im glad it worked for you, as we always need the right amount of bass.

That´s why I asked my question. Actually don´t use enhanced bass, just set your speakers to "small". With enhanced bass you have the subs and the speakers playing in the same frequency range, which generates phase problems and therefore actually a less even bass.

So, week-old thread but maybe worth noting that the Small/Large setting has nothing to do with physical size of the speakers; if you have a sub, it's probably to do frequencies that your speakers don't do or require a lot of amp power to do; most people with a sub are better off using 'Small' and choosing an appropriate crossover frequency... which is probably NOT the absolute lowest frequency your speakers are rated for.
