long story short, one of my daughters moved back home....don't ask. Anyway I got booted from my listening room, a very genourous sized space above the garage and am now ensconced in a much smaller room, 14x14. I currently refer to it as the Pit of Misery... Dilly Dilly.
My current speaker (Focal 1038be) are proving to be a bit much for the new space. They are a tad bright on the high end to begin with but I was able to tone this down with EQ in the larger space, but not in the smaller room which is causing some listening fatigue. They are wonderful speakers just at home in a large space.
i have a buyer for the Focals, a friend who has admired them. I have an opportunity to get a pair of Dynaudio Focus 340's at a good price, but will not have the chance to demo them as I am in Buffalo and they are in Northern California.
i thought I would see if anyone here owns them or has experience with them, they are discontinued from Dynaudio so I can not hear them at a dealer. I would really like some feedback on your thoughts prior to pulling the trigger.
Electronics: XMC-1 (on loan from a friend while I await Gen-3 release) pair of Parasound A 23's bridged driving them. The 340's are rated at 4 ohm so 250w to each speaker.
thanks in advance for any insight you might provide.

I have a small living room and room treatments have helped a lot.

Also if you use the XMC-1 are you running Dirac Full room correction as you could adjust the high end to your liking.

It has been a long time but most of the Dynaudios had this mid treble harshness that put me off a bit but with a bit of eq like Dirac it will be a contender.
But for sure you have options. The Focals have a very detailed character about them. I really like them. You might be better looking at their line up rather than the Dynaudios. Of course your mileage may vary.

Thanks everyone,
I ran dirac, helped but not to the extent I hoped for As for room treatments, I'm going to take a look, looks like I may be in this space for a while, as my daughter sorts things out. All in all, I just believe the 1038's to be to large for the room, I may look into the Focal 948's as well, though the Dynaudio's would be an incredible deal, this is the 3rd, time someone has mentioned the brightness of the 340's and Dynaudio in general.
I plan to keep looking before jumping at the 340's
Thanks again, much appreciated!

And yes no matter what speakers you have especially in a smaller room some acoustic panel;s make a huge difference. Chad
