Start this one off: Late 1960's when I was about 5 - "Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly [Probably from Mom's collection]
- "Fever" by Peggy Lee - [Probably one of Dad's] even then, I had at least semi-sophisticated tastes....B-)
Still catch myself happily humming either of these at random occasions At the MENTION of either of these artists, said tune starts playing in the background within my head
BOTH were on 45 RPM Singles (I'm not a complete dinosaur, but I am starting to sprout a few green scales and grey chest-hairs)

Well I think I would need to define the meaning of kid, but let's start at the beginning. I don't recall the exact years they came out, and I'm not going to take the time to look them up right now, but there were 2.
I was born at the beginning of 1970.
Song #1 was Kung Fu Fighting.
Song #2 was Rhinestone Cowboy. Which was also when I got my own personal record player, and the 45. Same weekend The Six Million Dollar Man had the robot tank thing that went nuts.
This should be a good thread. Thanks for starting it. Bookmarked.

Follow that Dream by Elvis Presley that came out on 45. Must have played it to many times to count. I was 12 years old when I got my first record player for Christmas. Cant remember the brand of record player but it had a metal needle that you inserted into to tone arm. Even came with a package of extra needles

Discovering Rock & Roll + cussing + juvenile male attitude = still a favorite to this day.

My mother took away my 45 of "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvis and broke it in half because I wouldn't stop playing it on my little turntable...

I wore these albums/cassettes out:
Jethro Tull: Stand Up and Benefit Cream: Disraeli Gears Beatles: Abbey Road James Gang: LIVE in Concert Led Zeppelin: 2, 3 and 4 Traffic: John Barleycorn
There were 'special' songs on each of these that got played more than others.
