I took the HDMI cable from my Cox cable box (the one that works fine when plugged directly into the TV), and instead, ran the cable to the HDMI input on my Oppo UDP-205.
I took the Oppo's HDMI output cable to the TV (the one that works fine when playing discs), and left it routed to the HDMI input on the Samsung TV.
But now, no matter what Oppo input I select, the Oppo won't "pass through" the Cox box AV signal to the TV.
This should be as simple as "select the desired Oppo input" and the Oppo output should automatically send both video and audio to the destination (in this case, the TV).
Why isn't this working?
Thanks - Boom

You must select HDMI IN-Put on the Oppo and then have the proper HDMI out to the TV Edit; The HDMI out ,closest to the LAN plug on the back of the 205, should go to the Samsung TV

Is it handshaking? Turn the tv off then back on?

The HDMI cables (both known good) ARE plugged into the correct sockets. Turning the TV on / off has not affected the behavior. But handshaking is an excellent question. I'll turn BOTH the Oppo and the TV off & try restarting them in reverse order. Maybe?

Thanks, socketman - The AVS Forums consensus seems to be "It's the cable box." One poster said he had to change boxes three times before getting a model that would work through his Oppo. Since my Cox Cable box is now a couple of years old, it's probably at least one, two, or more generations old. So this coming week, I'll return it for a latest model. Hopefully, that will solve the issue.

Did the Oppo "pass through" before you swapped cables?
Generally when troubleshooting an issue in a previously working system, the first place to look is the last change you made.

I've never used the Oppo as a pass-through before (except with audio). Audio pass-through works perfectly. But for video, I've always independently connected the cable box and the Oppo directly to the TV via separate HDMI cables.

OK - I'm missing the obvious. Explain?

OK - I'm missing the obvious. Explain? Cable box video quality set to automatic? Oppo video out set to auto? Im sure you’ve looked at page 19 of the Oppo manual. Shouldn’t be anymorethen that.

OK - I'm missing the obvious. Explain? You were not using the Oppo in "pass through" mode before. You ae trying to now. The problem is with the Oppo. I know it will process video, but does it actually even HAVE a pass-through mode or does it need to be powered on?

You have angered the HDCP God's. Another reason HDMI is so special. The solution is probably above here. One reason I tell people on computers use Display Port. No HDMI B.S.
No HDCP you can do much more with DP than HDMI.
You know Hollywood Denies Media Immediately for acronym decode of HDMI.

Page 19 says that the user can connect an HDMI source to the player's input to take advantage of the player's built-in video processing. There is nothing about "pass through." It requires the player to be turned on and the input selected.

I agree, David - but with the player on & the input selected, I'm still getting nothing out.

You usually can’t have your cake AND eat it too. 😋

Do you have another HDMI connection that you can test the Oppo with?
