This is the unit I have been waiting for, even if the projected price point drifts up a few hundred dollars. However it has been a while since I've seen a status report on its progress, or even if it is still a projected product.

it was announced some time ago that this processor was going back to the drawing board to add Atmos capability. We would see the RMC-1 as the next processor release (which seems close), then they would work on the EMP-1 again.
There has been no further word on this product, nor it’s associated stereo pre or amps in well over a year by my recollection. It would seem based on past Emotiva behavior that this whole line is dead. It reminds me of the whole Emotiva Glass line that they just stopped talking about. Now they had shown products at CES two years in a row (Emersa), but that was two or three years ago.
Sorry that’s what I remember.

The last time they did provide info on it the word was that the whole line of Emersa was still in the works, but that the RMC-1 and XMC-1 upgrades were a priority. In a recent podcast, they did refer to other future processors coming. Whether it's an Emersa or another price point within the Emotiva line remains to be seen. I suspect we'll hear more after the RMC-1 launches.

With 4K and Atmos/DTS-X essential in processors these days I just don't see how they can fit it all into a DC-1 sized box. More particularly how they can incorporate all of the necessary connections into the rear panel. So my guess is the EMP-1 is a dead duck.

If Marantz can have an NR slimline will all the bells and whistles including 7 channels of amplification, then I would think it’s possible in the small 1 RU form factor. I don’t think they were ever half width like the DC-1

I don’t think they were ever half width like the DC-1 To clarify, I was referring to the DC-1 height as being the limitation, the Emersa line was shown (back in 2016 mind) as being the same height as the DC-1 which would make it next to impossible to fit all of the connections required for sufficient 4K HDMI inputs, analogue inputs and 7.1.4 pre amp outputs, I'm not convinced that even 5.1.2 outputs would fit. In contrast to the rear view of a Marantz NR1607, which is 105 mm tall. Compared to an XMC-1 which s 133 mm tall and an MC-700 which is 67 mm, the NR1607 sits half way in between ie; way more than EMP-1 height (which I suspect was intended to be the same as the MC-700). Cheers Gary

If Emotiva were going for an all digital processor(no analog inputs) I think 7.1.4 pre-outs and 5 HDMI inputs & 1 HDMI output is most definitely possible.

Developing another in house processor after the XMC-1, HDMI, Atmos, XMC-1 Gen 3, RMC-1 are finished? Sounds like a never never product, keeping in mind that Emersa was announced 2 and half years ago already (ie; CES January 2016). Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary My guess would be something on the design level of what Dan had asked us about in a poll before, like the XMC-1(light). In this case, a pretty much already designed and existing platform which could be modified to add Atmos that has digital HDMI inputs and HDMI outputs, no analog inputs and probably a USB input for firmware updates.

Ah, the opportunity missed XMC-1L, which wasn't an Emersa product, more an "X" level. Correctly spec'd and appropriately priced that would be a big volume seller, I see it as easily surpassing the sales of all of the other processors combined. The technical sweat spot at around half the retail price of a Yamaha CX-A5100. Takes me back to the good old days of Emotiva, that are unfortunately long gone Cheers Gary

I think I’ll let Emotiva focus on getting the 2 pre/pros and the RMC-1 released this year first.
Emotiva’s value quotient still has me waiting for the XMR-1 or XMC-1 gen3 despite the delayed release.
They have been mum about the Emersa line since they had displayed them at Axpona a few years ago. So, I guess it’s not gonna happen at this time or any time soon.

From the absolute sound interview Dan said "So-called lifestyle products will have an enormous effect on the high end". Is he talking about Emersa???...
