Wow - I had no idea I was starting a religious war. Devotion to one's own programmable remote brand is obviously not just a matter of features or pricing, but a matter of profound and devout faith. So let me try to explain again - I'm an agnostic. Period. The point is that the remote becomes your connection to everything. There is more physical, emotional, and ergonomic relationship to it than any other device. If it works for you, then it's awesome. But if it doesn't, then it can be totally frustrating and annoying. I too would pitch another device in my system before my remote, or, like I said in the other thread that got deleted, not buy the Anthem AVM60 because with my beloved remote, input switching sucks.

Bonzo is correct - the remote on the Anthem AVM60 is horrible. It was a significant factor in my decision to return it. The last programmable remote I liked was the ancient Pronto. I really dislike the Logitech remotes.

PS - the primary reason I hate the Logitech is that the text on the screen is too small to read without reading glasses (only a factor if you're over, say, 45 years old)

Guys - you're beating a dead horse. I've given you my reasons, and although your priorities are different, I think that the Logitech 650 will work for me. Ordered from Amazon yesterday - arriving today. I'll look it over & try it out. Not adequate? I can return it & then buy the URC. What's the main criteria for acceptance? WAF If the boss isn't happy, then nobody's happy! Good choice. I am a big subscriber to the K.I.S.S. method (keep it simple stupid ). Mark

For those that don't like Windows, the app works pretty well for programming, too.

Now you are just fibbing us. Your wife is not a James Bond villan. But IMHO my wife (in her younger days) did somewhat resemble French actress Sophie Marceau, much to my pleasure. Time, however, has its way with us all - the main thing that the young can never understand or accept. But as with all ex-girlfriends, ex-mistresses, ex-crushes, and one-and-only-wife, we have the mental luxury (should we choose to avail ourselves of it) to still picture them as they once were, and thus, will always be.

I bought a Logitech harmony 650 refurb about 2 yrs ago, very easy to set up via computer/internet. The price was great and it works very well. My wife doesn't want to try and figure out what needs to be turned on and what inputs need switched etc etc, this remote fixes that for her. One button and everything switches for her. Mark The 650 works well, but has some limitations. There are always issues with start up timing that the 650 does not handle well ( or I have not figured out the programming for it). The best feature is the "Fix" button that changes modes or configurations after the units have powered up. I have an MC-700 and the power up time is a little long, which causes mode setting issues.

With the Harmony software, you should be able to increase the "power on delay" for the MC-700 if the remote is sending it commands before it is ready to respond.

PS - the primary reason I hate the Logitech is that the text on the screen is too small to read without reading glasses (only a factor if you're over, say, 45 years old) I can make this bigger if you need, also any color text, any font style, any color background or any image, any multiple images, any image background, my URC MX-990 can do pretty much whatever you want.

But doesn't the URC require a "professional" to configure it?

But doesn't the URC require a "professional" to configure it? Well that's what they'd like. I have been using them since 2005. I've always programmed my own and I sure wouldn't let anyone else do it. No one else is going to take the time and detail to do the customization I have. Amazing remotes, it really is a shame URC does not market them to the DIY enthusiast.

With the Harmony software, you should be able to increase the "power on delay" for the MC-700 if the remote is sending it commands before it is ready to respond. -tm The issue is that the MC gets the power on signal from the Harmony, and the MC does not recognize the subsequent mode command because the MC is in power up mode. The MC takes too long to power up and the Harmony has already sent the mode command. The "Fix" button can remedy this, but it has to be a 2 step process.

I hear the Flying Spaghetti Monster uses a URC remote. I don't know about that, but I've seen that early Emotiva came with rebranded URC Home Theater Master remotes, the MX-500 models I believe, they were relabeled Emotiva. I don't remember which Emotiva models came with them it's been a few years now since I saw it, probably one of Emotiva's first pre-amps.

It was much easier to program than a Harmony I bought from Costco and returned. siggie

The MX-500 was a very highly regarded remote for its time. URC used this remote design on many models over the years MX-500, MX-600, MX-650, MX-700, MX-800 and MX-850 all shared the same general look but with different colors and slight button changes, each higher model upgrading with new features like RF control, computer programmability, etc. they are still very nice remotes even today.
