Can’t leave then lying loose - put them in a basket or bin & they tangle. In-wall isn’t feasible.
Suggestions?
Thanks - Boom

Are you saying you need to put them away and re-run them each time you want to use them?
Can you pull off the baseboards from your walls, run behind there, and reattach the baseboard?
If you can't do that, make sure you're wrapping the cable properly (https://youtu.be/B2SUoAvGxVs). Also, make sure you're setting it down correctly, and UNwrapping it correctly. Those little velcro ties also help.

Hi thrillcat - Yep - since it’s a dual-use room, I need to pick them up after each & every use. I could remove the baseboards and run the wires below, but there are doors in-between, and the baseboards are made of cheap MDF (not likely to survive removal & reinstallation without damage). Boom

Boom Bummer. But if you properly do the over/under wrapping, and use care when you unwrap them, you should be just fine. Or get a garden hose reel for each of them.

Is there an IMPROPER way to store speaker wire, excluding outright abuse. I'm sincerely interested in your opinion, as well as the general consensus.✌ Namaste🙏

Are we talking about just speaker cables to the surround speakers, or interconnects as well? If its just speaker cables and assuming you have carpet in the room "flat" wires designed just for this sort of application do exist. If I'm not mistaken it seems like AQ made some in the past and believe there are other companies doing the same. So installing those permanently under the carpet would solve at least this issue. However if you are talking about interconnects too, it becomes an entirely different can of worms.
Back to just the speaker cables for surrounds. Where the cables cross doorways they could be permanently installed under a wooden threshold with cavity underneath and from their run inconspicuously along the baseboards perhaps. Where there is a will there has to be a way, non withstanding the WAF issue. Some custom installation people also have the skills, tools and here with all to retrofit existing structures. Might be worth looking into this if you are not handy with tools and working on houses.
Your are correct the MDF trim most likely would not withstand much removal and re-installation. But you could contract someone locally to install real wood (painted or not) trim in its place. It would add to the cost but just for one room probably not prohibitively so. It would certainly be better than what you're currently doing.

I installed crown molding in my theater and ran the wires inside the crown molding, drilled a hole in the wall and dropped the wire down through the wall for the speaker.

Don't run speaker wires behind baseboards. If you can run through the walls and across the ceiling, do that (using proper CL2 rated wire.)

Answer is simple. Don’t run surround speakers. Or... get a wireless transmitter.

Wrap wires around an empty paper towel roll and a rubber band. 😁

Answer is simple. Don’t run surround speakers. Or... get a wireless transmitter. I'm definitely game for a wireless transmitter, but the only one I've found was from Sonos - and it needs their control box that I don't have. I'm strongly thinking of going simple with some curtain hooks attached to the sides of the equipment shelf. Let'em dangle until needed - simple, cheap, and less tangle-prone than having a box or bin...

I'm sincerely interested in your opinion, as well as the general consensus.✌ Namaste🙏 No - unless the temperature is so high that you're damaging the insulator or the "storage" method is abrasive to the insulation, there is no "improper" way to store speaker wire. But if you're laying it out every time you want to see a movie in surround (where it turns into a tripping hazard) and then rolling it up after every movie, there ARE convenience issues (and possibly safety ones...).
