Banding. I was able to fix banding last night with firmware updates on both the OLED55C7P and XMC-1. I was watching Star Trek UHD with my Oppo 203 and there was banding on the background sky when young Jim Kirk is on his joy ride in his hometown in Iowa as a kid. Well, I looked into upgrading FireWare on the C7 as Wilbur suggested and I went from software version 03.60.16 to software version to 05.80.04. This took several updates to get to this point because I was going thru the tv and updating from there however when I got to 04.71.00 it would not find the latest update to 05.80.04 so I had to get on the desktop on download it on a usb and do it manually. To my satisfaction that I had the latest software it did not fix the banding. I then opted to upgrade the XMC firmware from 5.2 to 5.3 and it fixed the banding in that movie. It also made the toggling between inputs snappier and there is no delay now with volume control. So are other LG OLED C7 owners getting this same result with the LG firmware version 05.80.04 ?

For what it's worth, I was up in my bedroom watching College Game Day on a Samsung 4K 40" TV. The DirecTV client was connected to the TV with a good HDMI cable. On a couple of shots (all were commercials), I saw a lot of banding. My point is that it may not be the Emotiva - could be the TV or the source. Sorry Wilbur but it's not the source. Lonnie already replicated the banding in their lab. I have a Sony X930E and LG HDR monitor (no OLED) and in both I get HDR banding when the XMC-1 is in the chain. If I bypass the XMC-1 then banding is totally gone. If I use my Marantz SR6013 I get no banding either so the problem is the XMC-1, not the source. Did Lonnie also confirm/not confirm that the banding also occurs with source direct?

They replicated the banding issue with the XMC-1 in the chain with ATV 4K. Not sure what other sources they tested or if they tried with source direct, though. The last update I got from Lonnie regarding the HDR banding issue was three weeks ago and he said they were still looking for a fix. I emailed again 3 days ago asking for an update but I haven't get a response from Lonnie yet.

So I received the Amazon recommended HDMI cables that were mentioned here. I tested the ATV 4k DV. Problem is still there.

I recently upgraded to the new V3 board and latest firmware. I have a curious and intermittent problem when playing from source, either Oppo 103 or Apple TV 4K to Sony projector 4K. Most of the time all is ok but on occasions usually when first starting I get sound from all channels except from the centre channel carrying dialogue. Rebooting the XMC from the switch at the back fixes this but its a bit of a pain to do this especially as the start up time is a couple of minutes. This has also happened when switching between movies during the same session, ie finishing one with all channels working yet the next drops the centre channel again. This thankfully is rarer than the drop from the start. Any help on this much appreciated.

Can’t say I’ve heard about that problem, one thing that’s good to know with any V3 problem is whether you’re using Video on standby or low power standby, and whether it changes using low power standby.

I'm using video on standby. If that isn't compatible with low power standby at the same time then thats all i'm using.

Next time it happens, listen more closely and see if it seems like the center channel is being sent to the sub. That was a strange, rare occurrence on my UMC200. Never figured it out but a quick input change would correct it.

This HDMIv3 board the same one used in the RMC, correct? Could anyone tell me what the output options over HDMI are? Are you able to get source video+audio (like a zone2) or just source source video without source audio?

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this but I've found that the display preferences don't stick. For example I have mine set to "Input". All is fine until you press info on the remote. After doing this the display on the XMC stays showing the normal 3 column full info display. It doesn't go back to the input display.
I believe Emo is aware of this.

darien87 - I had the exact same problem until I updated the XMC-1 firmware to the current release.

Got an email from Lonnie 30 mins ago with Firmware V5.4 (Beta) and after doing some quick testing, I can say that HDR and Dolby Vision banding with ATV 4K are gone for good in both of my displays, Sony X930E and LG HDR Monitor. I'll be doing some more testing these coming days hopping this is a permanent fix. Not sure if I can share this firmware with others so I asked Lonnie to ask Keith to post it here in the Lounge. Thanks Lonnie for fixing the HDR/DV Banding bug!!!
Happy Thanksgivings to all of you guys!!

But based upon your results, I’m gonna do the old switcharoo over the weekend and, hopefully, have my XMC-1 back for good... 😁

But based upon your results, I’m gonna do the old switcharoo over the weekend and, hopefully, have my XMC-1 back for good... 😁 Not to fast, Doc After doing a quick check I found that Dirac Preset is now missing, it's not showing on the Speaker setup. Only Preset 1 and Preset 2 are available. But it's showing in the XMC-1 app and you can select it. So what I did was reflash the XMC-1 with V5.4B again and got these So I did reboot and the XMC-1 was showing V5.4B and Dirac was still not showing. So I decided to go back to V5.3 but again the firmware update failed when updating the HDMI version so got the same Retry 1, Retry 2 and Failed update screens but this time after rebooting the XMC-1 is showing Firmware V5.3 with HDMI Version 3.4 dated 11/21/2018 so basically I'm running Firmware V5.3 with HDMI Version from V5.4B. The good news is that Dirac Preset is back on the speaker menu and HDR/DV Banding is gone. Now, what worries me is what would happen if I update with the next firmware available, will the HDMI Version fail? Already reported this to Lonnie. In my case the XMC-1 is working but I do not recommend anybody to update to V5.4B until Lonnie check on this issue.

enricoclaudio ... thanks for the heads up. Hopefully that should be an easy fix for Lonnie and the team to fix and get a revised beta out to us. In the meantime, I may go ahead and try it anyway just to confirm that it also fixes the HDR banding problem for me as well. I can do without Dirac temporary...

Dirac is working with V5.4B but it's not showing on the XMC-1 speaker menu. However, it can be selected with the XMC-1 Remote app as it shows up in the app.

Wonder if they pulled code from the RMC-1 with Dirac Live disabled/hidden? In any event I really hope an official release is coming soon... At least we haven't been forgotten in the RMC-1 push! I checked and my LG C7 is at FW 4.71 and the update did not find newer. I may look at the website this weekend. I actually may have a day or two off, because my tests are held up, because (ahem) FW is not playing well with the HW! Geez, I can't get away from it, work or home.
