Just upgraded from the 5.2 code to the newly released 5.4 code and I think I may have found a minor bug. On the XMC-1 go into settings and then information. On my XMC-1 the Firmware Version field is blank, it should read 5.4. With 5.2 the Firmware Version was displayed correctly as 5.2. Firmware Version BLANK – Should be 5.4 Kernel Version 1.2 18/02/08 HDMI Version 3.4 18/11/21 FP Version 2.1 18/10/02 CPLD Version 2.0 18/05/14 For those that have upgraded to 5.4 please check and see if your information is displayed the same as mine and reply. Thanks Back on May 2017, when my XMC-1 came originally from factory with 4.1 firmware, it wasn't showing the Firmware version like in your case. I called Emotiva and they said that was normal. What the heck??? I reflashed the XMC-1 with V4.1 and the firmware version came back up. My recommendation is to reflash your XMC-1 with V5.4 firmware.

Thanks, that’s what I was afraid of. I’m in Toronto so I hope for a quick painless process . 🙄 Possibly the repair Center in Calgary will suffice. There’s an Emotiva repair centre in Calgary ? Good to know. Thanks, will see if I can find information on this .

So, since I upgraded my XMC-1 HDMI board (factory upgrade a few months ago), I have run into the following three problems (EMail sent to Emotiva)
1 - XMC-1 reports 5.1 surrounds but, only plays in stereo mode and drops the other channels. When I try to adjust the surrounds, the XMC reports no surrounds. Does not happen with 7.1 sources 2 - I have been noticing an audible intermittent "thump" from the right channels (surround, sub, and rear speakers (all running from independent mono-blocks) 3 - Runs great for about hour then, my video starts dropping, have a short video, file too large to upload. Start with quick dropouts then they get longer and the projector reports loss of HDMI signal. Running source direct to the projector, this does not occur. Cannot make it through an average movie or football game without this occurring every time
I am on Version 5.3 of the software, was waiting to hear more input from others before upgrading to version 5.4
My projector is only 1080P (Sony VPL-VW40ES) and doubt's it's running more that 13Ghz but, all HDMI cabling is new and 18Ghz compliant
Has anybody else experienced these symptoms? Will an upgrade to version 5.4 solve any of these symptoms?

Highly recommended that you install the latest 5.4 located here: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/54025/latest-release-xmc-firmware-2018

My XMC-1 recognizes my USB drive but, does not seem to think there is an update file even though it is on the flash drive. Has anybody else run into this issue? The file on my USB drive is XMCupdate-2018_12_06_v5-4.dat and is the only file on the USB drive

Good to read that you found the solution to this problem by switching USB drives. To help others who run into this problem, I ran into this problem as well. For me, the problem was caused by the USB drive being ExFAT formatted. I reformated my drive using the MS-DOS (FAT) format (I'm using a Mac) as Emotiva says in the firmware post. Once I did this, my XMC could find the update file.

Good Results - Upgraded to firmware V 5.4 and it appears to have solved all three issues listed below that I was having but, will need to run a bit longer to make sure item 3 is truly solved. Still, love my XMC-1 and see myself upgrading to an RMC-2 down the road to get to 7.2.4 once it’s launched and the bugs worked out, that’s my limit on channels

I do see one major flaw though, ARC has been activated on my board per my request and for the most part functions. The issue is with startup, The XMC can't lock on to the sound from the ARC output source. It all ways looks for sound on all the inputs only ! Even when the unit has been set to Input from HDMI/ARC. Emotiva has been very good at trying to resolve this issue. I would like to know if this issue can be resolved with firmware. It's not looking good at this point. The original 4k board with 4.1 firmware was flawless in my set up! Everything worked as advertised ! I hate to call it looks like they are working very hard on many fronts And for now I can just switch inputs with the remote for the lock on sound. But again it would great if I turn on the TV unit and the sound was active ! So for all the improvements thanks ! It has been very pleasant experience with my XMC-1 , love sharing the experience with friends and family And all the comments are positive with the audio and video experience! So fingers are crossed for a fix on the ARc channel !

ARC never really worked great. I would just use an optical cable and call it a day if I were you...

The only thing left for me is CEC, and it's about a 0.5 on a scale of 1-10. I'd like my LG TV volume control to control the XMC-1's volume control. And yes, I know CEC is very much hit or miss. This is NOT a big deal (I don't like any universal remotes I've tried, and I really like the XMC-1's "military grade" remote

ARC worked perfect with the original 4k board FW 4.1, CEC works awesome as well and has always worked well. So not sure why the issue with the new board and I'm hoping for a fix. Not quite ready to patch yet !

After installing 5.4, startup times are dramatically faster and more reliable. And this is with a Comcast (Pace)X1 box, too. For my purposes, it looks like Emotiva has finally nailed it. Thanks to all.

Prior to installing 5.4 I had two issues. The first was banding with 4k HDR which is now fixed. The second issue which I have been speaking to Emotiva about is missing audio on the Apple TV 4k The issue as described to Emotiva is as below. I am sure if Emo can duplicate the issue it will be fixed as from my experience their customer support is exceptional. From a personal perspective it would be good to know if anyone else has seen this issue.
The Apple TV 4K loses the center channel speech information, not the entire center channel as there is still any ambient sound present on the center channel. I leave my XMC-1 in video standby mode and the problem can exhibit itself from startup or by switching apps from say YouTube to Netflix.
This can be fixed by switching to another HDMI input and back again. It seems to occur when the Apple TV audio setting is set to “Best quality available” which converts the audio output from ATV to LPCM. If the ATV is set to output Dolby Digital 5.1 it seems to be more reliable. Unfortunately some apps like “Infuse” pass uncompressed audio formats like DD True HD to the ATV so leaving the ATV set to “Best quality available” is the only option to allow ATV LPCM output and not let it down sample to Dolby Digital 5.1. This did work without issue on the original XMC HDMI board. I have two display devices connected to the XMC-1, a Vizio 1080p TV and an Optoma UHZ65 4K projector, this issue occurs when using ether device.
