So, in this little poll so far, 36 out of 50 after 6 years are NOWHERE with ATMOS. A very small sampling but an indication that this is no world beater. Bill Or that this board is more of a music setup and movies secondary. So not an accurate representation

Where are you in terms of Dolby Atmos? I'm thinking that we could use another poll that adds to this one. Something along the lines of, why are you doing or not doing Atmos. For example, I'm doing it because I haven't changed my processor in 13 years, AND, since my room is an open attic ranch, the installation is about as easy as it could be. I also think Atmos is here to stay, like it or not, even if it is pinned to 4 channels (not really Atmos). But covering everyone's answer with a limited poll could be difficult.

Plan to install 4 ceiling speakers but it's over 130 oF in the attic in the summer, so I'll wait until the winter. Have you decided on the speakers (brand/model) or still researching? Undecided on brand/model and still searching. Also, trying to decide if I should mount the speakers on the ceiling or embed them (i.e. flush mount to the ceiling, for a better WAF). I think it gets way too hot up in the attic to have speakers protrude into the attic (if flush mounted to the ceiling) and the possibility of damage due to heat makes me want to mount them on the ceiling. This also affords the possibility of angling them if needed. However I don't know if angling them towards the listening position is right for Atmos. Still researching these things.

I live in Dallas, it is hot 130+ degrees in the attic but I am not going to check the temp! I have the Monoprice Caliber 8" in ceiling with the 15 degree angled drivers, prior to my XMC-1 I used a Marantz AVR that had Atmos they sounded great for the role they play in the listening environment and they withstand the elements quite well. Since I already have all Def Tech, I stayed in the family. Got these, their very highly regarded and rated DI-8Rs. The tweeters can be angled slightly in case I feel I need that after install, but that's not what Atmos calls for. Don't have them installed yet, but just from checking them out I can say they are very well made speakers. www.amazon.com/Definitive-Technology-UEWA-ceiling-Speaker/dp/B0024POB2C

DefTech makes a great speaker. Once we get an Atmos board I would think lots of opinions will be flying around about type, quality, size, etc. of in-ceiling speakers. I didn't spend the money on high-end speakers till I determined what I was getting from the movie track. With the Marantz I was good with the Monoprice speakers, with the XMC-1 Atmos board I would assume the same but then again the sound quality of the XMC-1 might show some weakness in the speakers. Time will tell..........

Hey Hemster: The angling option is fantastic, and is simply better than using the upward firing ceiling-bouncing speaker option, if one does not want to cut holes in one's ceiling to install ceiling speakers. The SVS prime elevation speakers, for example, enable the implementation of object-based height speaker functionality through angling, and their approach has been well reviewed here: www.avsforum.com/svs-sound-prime-elevation-speakers-review/The SVS rollout PR pages are themselves very informative: see here: www.svsound.com/pages/prime-elevation...nallyPersonally, I am more open to the height-speaker angling option for atmos, than I am to in-ceiling or on-ceiling speaker mounting options... I am just not going to use the SVS speakers, as I have already purchased similarly versatile speakers from Polk at a more competitive price, and the Polk-speakers are more timbre matched to the LSIM speakers I normally use in my HT and 2 channel systems. As for the upward-firing ceiling bouncing speaker alternative, I do not consider that at all and do not include it in my viable options. Of course, all this is still in process, and your mileage may well vary Personally, I prefer the flexibility of the Polk Owm5's mounting options, and that is also one of the reasons why they're the height speakers I am currently considering for Atmos at the moment.

Had atmos for a couple years now. I love it. Was super easy install for me with my drop ceiling. I run my volt 6’s infinite baffle in the ceiling. Thinking of adding a 3rd row of volts up top. I previously had my 4 surrounds hung on the ceiling, placing them lower on the wall and adding in ceiling speakers was a huge upgrade in my opinion.

so again for all those that still think atmos is for helicopters flying overhead. find a demo of " A quiet Place" easily the best ATMOS use I have ever heard....as convincing of audio i have heard in my theater bar none. and not a helicopter to be found in the movie
