So I never use these systems that auto setup ... But I've been curious the last few days. So, tonight I hooked it up and ran it ...
Settings weren't too bad - but how do I simply raise the level of channels (ie surrounds) in total?
I see that I can select Emo Q settings and then amend, but it seems I have to adjust gain for each and every band? Am missing something to simply increase the level in total?
The other thing - when watching a 5.1 movie (Netflix is my primary source) in Direct, the subwoofers work because there is a seperate LFE channel? But if I switch to a 2ch Netflix documentary - I'm guessing Direct won't activate the subs?

Am missing something to simply increase the level in total? You didn't mention which processor you're using (UMC-1, UMC-200 or MC-700), so the menu branching is somewhat different for each, but you should be able to adjust the output levels for each individual speaker in the "Setup" menu under "Speakers" Menu > Setup > Speakers > Levels (or Test Tones) Upon doing this, the internal "test tones" may become active. Make sure your master volume is turned down to a comfortable level before tweaking output level adjustments. The other thing - when watching a 5.1 movie (Netflix is my primary source) in Direct, the subwoofers work because there is a seperate LFE channel? But if I switch to a 2ch Netflix documentary - I'm guessing Direct won't activate the subs?Yes... "Direct" is just as you are imagining it to be. What's found in each channel passes accordingly. However, if bass management is engaged (and not overridden by the direct mode), all bass below the crossover frequencies set for each speaker will still be sent to the subwoofer. It's been awhile since I've owned a UMC processor (and haven't owned the MC), but I do remember that they function somewhat differently (especially the UMC-1) in this area. The great thing about them, though, is that you "can" program them to use a specific "mode" when it sees a certain type of signal. So, for example, if your subwoofer does not engage when a 2.0 signal is detected, use "Stereo" instead of "Direct" to activate bass management. If you do this in the setup menu, it will do this automatically whenever this scenario presents itself. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the prompt reply, doc.
Sorry - I have a UMC-200. I'll give that a go tonight ... didn't try it, as I thought it may change all the bands / Q settings that the mic picked up.
Regarding the 'Direct', perfect - thanks !
