Did anyone else get the e-mail that said the XMC-1 is going away and that there are only 103 left?
It said "There's an XMC-1 replacement that will be out in the near future. We are keeping details under wraps including the model number until we are ready to share. Stay Tuned." It went on to say the XMC-1 and its upgrades would be available and it will be supported "for years to come".

I also received the same email. Is the XMC-2 on its way, or is the RMC-1 ready to take over the XMC-1 spot?

Got the email. At almost 2x the price and no release date yet I doubt the RMC-1 will replace the the XMC-1. I am guessing a version of the XMC perhaps with the new boards for video and Atmos plus maybe some other tweaks? A lot of us are still awaiting a final working version of the v3 video board FW so maybe Emotiva is waiting until that is released before announcing the XMC-1 replacement (?)

Are the economic disagreements with China affecting Emotiva supply and planning?

I did not get an email, yet.
Not a surprise to me. There was no way they would continue to sell the gen 2 product along side the new one.
The question is the wait. How long has the DC-1 been gone now yet the DC-2 hasn't showed up yet for sale.
Perhaps the gen 2 sales have stopped and this is some promotion to get them off the shelves. Definitely possible since everyone knows the next version is eminent.
Dunno. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Hopefully the new unit is full of surprises, and its not exactly what we've seen. At least that's what I'm hoping.

At least that's what I'm hoping. I agree it would not make any sense to sell the current XMC-1 when the new one comes out. Since it looks like they have stopped making the XMC-1 you would think the new XMC-2 (I'm using that name for now) should be available fairly soon, but that is just a guess.

The XMC-1 has been a huge hit for us and we will continue to support it for a very long time. That is the beauty of our proprietary platform that all our X-Series processors are built on. No, there isn't an issue with China and supply/planning. And to follow up with what Bonzo said, the next unit is not exactly what you guys have seen.

Should I hold off on upgrading the XMC-1?

I got the email bright and early this morning, but this is no surprise. Dan said that they would continue to sell the current version of the XMC-1 only as long as there was a demand for it.
Since he made this statement (probably) more that a year ago, times have changed, technology has changed, and so has the marketability of a $2,500 7.1 processor.
IMHO, the XMC-1 "gen3", or XMC-2, or whatever they decide to call it is long overdue...

Since the board upgrade, we've been selling XMCs like crazy, actually ahead of our forecast. We only had a set number left in our planning/schedule, so we're letting you all know now to get one before it's too late. We've found that you all like these type of notifications like we did recently with the XPA-1 G2.

Should I hold off on upgrading the XMC-1? This is a good question, there will be differences between an upgraded XMC-1 G2 and it’s replacement (still hoping for XMC-2). I thought I should update my comparison spreadsheet, but Nick’s comments make me want to wait. That said, each Generation should have its advantages depending on your needs.

This is consistent with the mention Dan made about us being surprised how soon the XMC1 gen3 would surface It certainly puts the RMC1 in a more firm time perspective I feel ie further away Hope Ime off the mark for those who need it as fast as possible..

Two years agon I upgraded my TV, and my UMC-1 was suddenly obsolete thanks to HDCP 2.2. I got a DENON receiver with pre outs to hold me over until the XMC1 with the new HDCP 2.2 board was available. Surprisingly, the mass-market receiver works better than I expected, and so I haven't been in any hurry to upgrade. Now with this announcement, I'm in a quandary! Should I jump on the XMC-1 while it's still available, or continue with my complacent state of audio existence until then replacement arrives??? Sure wish I had some insight on what the replacement might be...

On the latest podcast they told that "Atmos guys" will come with a complete new upgrade to the market.
When they got this news and worked on that for RMC-1 they need to upgrade the XMC unit to handle the new Atmos standards i think.
I think that the new HDMI Board are the last upgrade card for the XMC-1 because of that.
XMC-2 price i think was said to 2999-3499 USD.
Will be nice to see the new upgraded unit and price on it.

What would the replacement model have to have to make you want it instead? What would either of them need for things to be better than your Denon? Base your decision on what you know now, if you don’t know enough you’ll just have to wait. Remember too, when new processors do come out (optimism), there will always be used XMC-1 G2’s available.
