When they got this news and worked on that for RMC-1 they need to upgrade the XMC unit to handle the new Atmos standards i think. I think that the new HDMI Board are the last upgrade card for the XMC-1 because of that. They've said they will provide an update board for the original XMC-1 for Atmos. And, their e-mail included this statement: "The current XMC-1 will be supported with board and firmware updates, so while the model won't be available for sale, we will support it for years to come". So, they are saying counter to what you state. Whether they deliver or not remains to be seen. Mark

On the latest podcast they told that "Atmos guys" will come with a complete new upgrade to the market. When they got this news and worked on that for RMC-1 they need to upgrade the XMC unit to handle the new Atmos standards i think. I think that the new HDMI Board are the last upgrade card for the XMC-1 because of that. XMC-2 price i think was said to 2999-3499 USD. Will be nice to see the new upgraded unit and price on it. There is a new Atmos standard?

Two years agon I upgraded my TV, and my UMC-1 was suddenly obsolete thanks to HDCP 2.2. I got a DENON receiver with pre outs to hold me over until the XMC1 with the new HDCP 2.2 board was available. Surprisingly, the mass-market receiver works better than I expected, and so I haven't been in any hurry to upgrade. Now with this announcement, I'm in a quandary! Should I jump on the XMC-1 while it's still available, or continue with my complacent state of audio existence until then replacement arrives??? Sure wish I had some insight on what the replacement might be... I'd wait, but expect to wait a while - it'll probably be announced around CES. If whatever it is doesn't excite you, even though there won't be any more XMC-1's you'll be able to get one used with little trouble.

I will wait until the ATMOS upgrade is out, and send my unit in for the total upgrade to take advantage of the combo discount (at least that's what I was told on the phone). Maybe the sale Kathy mentioned for next week will give me an opportunity for an amp for those extra channels of amplification.

Did anyone else get the e-mail that said the XMC-1 is going away and that there are only 103 left? It said "There's an XMC-1 replacement that will be out in the near future. We are keeping details under wraps including the model number until we are ready to share. Stay Tuned." It went on to say the XMC-1 and its upgrades would be available and it will be supported "for years to come". Mark I did not open the last few Emo. mails so actually not sure if I received it. But this thread and others regarding the XMC1, illustrate how tough it is to be ANY company putting processors out there in the field that can keep up with the evolving technology and remain relevant. I love my XMC1 in its original form, but when I finally launch 🚀 into ultra HD switching, I will re-evaluate the whole field of AV processors; the same thing I did when I came upon Emotiva, and just go from there. I hope that’s a long way off....from an audio standpoint the XMC1 remains at the top of the heap. Bill
