I need to extend the mic cable on my XMC-1. What have you used?

Have used Belden 1800f (preferred), Monster studio, and Canare; all work fine. Just in general, the XMC-1 cable data for adjusting the room correction is not critical in terms of bandwidth nor speed. Any quality XLR cable should work assuming its length is not more than, say 20 feet.

25 feet should be OK but you can compute the frequency and DB loss with formulas readily available on the Internet. They will tell you the change at 20khz and you can determine whether you should fudge that amount as part of the Dirac process (not sure how this would be done). Monoprice cable is well thought of.

Here is a formula that I have used in the past:
www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-cable.htmcapacitance
You will need to know the impedance of the Emotiva mic and the capacitance per meter of the XLR cable; the monoprice cable does not seem to supply this in the specs. Belden does. Have computed a number of Belden lengths in the past and 25 feet is not significant in terms of frequency loss. If you don't want to bother with the math, would just order the Monoprice -- it should work. you will know after running Dirac if the treble sounds muffled -- then the cable length and specs should be considered again.

I actually had problems extending the XLR-cable. What worked for me is to just extend the USB-side of the cable.

Interesting idea bolle. I'll look at that!

I actually had problems extending the XLR-cable. What worked for me is to just extend the USB-side of the cable. This is what I have always done with great success. I've got a 20ft USB extender just for this purpose, this allows me to use my laptop in the kitchen and be physically out of the living room where my home theater is.

I had to use a 100' active USB extender for my great room Dirac mic (MiniDSP is in my AV rack in the basement)... Works, but not a fan of tuning from a different room.

I use an XLR mic cable, works perfectly.
