Curious how popular or unpopular Roon is at this point.

Great poll.
I've been very happy with Roon (lifetime subscription). A friend of mine was a convert and was pushing it so I "gave him a Christmas present" by converting over from the abandoned and haphazardly maintained Logitech Squeeze server last Christmas. No regrets. I don't see any real competition at this point.

Just started using Roon with Tidal, love them both and the combination is excellent. Tonight I was seriously counting up the $ in my head I could get for my turntable, records, reel to reel, tapes, and cd's. Not to mention the free space I could create. Oh yeah, I cold also sell a couple of record cleaning systems...hmmmmm

I voted "I have not tried Roon but plan to sign up for the trial" but that's not completely true. I tried Roon and Tidal and could not get Tidal to play without stream interruptions. I spent so much time screwing with Tidal that I never got Roon up and running properly. I pulled the plug on both after about a week of fighting it.
I plan to try Roon again at some point once some other projects are out of the way. I'd probably do one year then either lifetime subscription or cancel it after trial for a year.
I like the Roon concept a lot.

I subscribe to Roon and Tidal. I am going to upgrade Roon to a life subscription, probably in January.

Best software purchase I've ever made. (Lifetime sub) This. Absolutely love Roon and supplement it with Tidal. To think of all the different software I've used over the years, this product is by far superior to anything else. Glad to finally have something I feel like I'll use for a long time.

I should have included a choice for those who have tried Roon but experienced barriers to successful operation.

I have Roon + Tidal: My setup was built for streaming and my music digital music files with CD's and vinyl being long gone. I was tired of have having my music all over the place, on various streaming services etc. I wanted music in one place, with a tablet remote, and without the TV on. So I went with Roon + Tidal and dedicate a MacBook Pro as the Roon Core device (lots of Core choices FYI) and an iPad as the Roon remote control. By the way, the last thing with the iPad is, Permanently Enable “Guided Access” in your iOS settings and your iPad and the Roon app are locked so it's the only app running.
I think Roon + Tidal is a simple and easy to use system. That is not always made clear when people look into the product because the it almost does too much when you set up a house system. I just wanted an easy way to have everything in one place and a good user experience on a tablet.

I should have mentioned that I seem to be one of the few people using Roon that I know who did not buy into the Tidal connection. I suppose I was just being cheap with the $20/month fee ...

I can get Tidal on an Oppo Sonica DAC and two Oppo Sonica speakers (all non MQA) and I can get I can get full MQA Tidal on a Cary Audio AiOS integrated amp / streamer dac. All have App interfaces. I also can access computer music files via UPnP on an Olive player/DAC device and on two Oppo Blu-ray players. I play HD files via most of the just mentioned DACs or on the computer via Foobar. What can Roon do for me? I feel I may be missing out on something, but I do not know what!

Just FYI..... I created a spot for Roon discussions over here.... which seemed like the obvious place for it. (I may move this entire thread over there in a few days.... ) emotivalounge.proboards.com/board/208/roon

What can Roon do for me? I feel I may be missing out on something, but I do not know what! Without pretending to have covered everything I would say "smooth, seamless, and centralized integration" of most if not all the components you have mentioned into: 1. 1 networked matrix of Roon endpoints (or players) that can each be controlled from one easy to use, and beautiful UI, either on your computer or mobile device, from wherever your sweet listening spot is. 2. This includes having all your curated tidal favorites/albums/artists playlists, (and soon, those of Qobuz too, if you're a subscriber) as well as all the music ripped onto local files stored on local drives or a NAS --all made easily available and placed at your fingertips on that same beautiful User Interface... 3. Excellent DSP and EQ'ing functionality for tweaking sound quality to your tastes (if needed), and even headphone EQ'ed presets for Audeze models (And one can only expect the list of headphone models and presets to grow) I am not sure I have covered all the bases, but this short video can also help to make things a little more clear:

What can Roon do for me? I feel I may be missing out on something, but I do not know what! The #1 thing I like about Roon over other options is the consolidation of everything into 1 software/1 interface that all looks and feels the same. AND...this has 1 really great benefit...if you have multiple versions of an album across various sources (like, your own ripped library, TIDAL, and others), you can click "versions" and see ALL you have access to. If you have a favorite - cool - tag it and each time you search for it, that one comes up (but others are available upon a click of a button if you want). Add to that the fact that the software/interface is very easy to set up and use, and it's really nice. Add to that the full data that's "right there"...the lineup of musicians, the backstory of the recording, the lyrics, etc...all...right there. Add to that...if you have multiple "zones" in your home, you can group them like Sonos does. For me, I still use my Sonos units for my casual "around the house/in the pool/hot tub listening), but I could see the day when I sell all the Sonos units and just use Roon through an inexpensive endpoint (like a Pi) for that. (I would have to test run the WAF to make sure she found the interface as easy as Sonos!) All in all...Very very nice. Mark

The one issue I'm not happy with Roon is their implementation of their iOS Application. Every time you bring it up it briefly shows you whatever was displaying previously, then goes black, and then comes back with an up-to-date display. Very clumsy. Also, at least on my iPhone, which is the controller I use most frequently, it tends to crash moderately frequently. I've been told by my friend that the UI is more stable on iPads (and is an easier UI to use sine it uses the extra screen real estate to display more elements).

Also, at least on my iPhone, which is the controller I use most frequently, it tends to crash moderately frequently. That would be annoying. The Roon app for Android that's running on my Google Pixel seems to be bug free and very snappy. Really happy with it. However, the Android tablet app is not optimized for the small 8" tablet I have but has not crashed.
