Again how funny it is that people here will tweak their sound system until the cows come home. All the hyperbole around wires and other gadgets etc. Moving speakes Β½" this way or that way. You know what I mean. Yet when there are 100% proof positive things like properly breaking in a TV or being able to achieve the very best picture possible for a minor $300-$400, more people try to explain why not to do it than people who just do it. Back to the camel or horse to water thing again. You can lead them there but you just can't make them drink. Everyone on this forum would spend $400 if it 100% made their sound system as perfect as it could be. But TV's, not so much. I don't get it.

Iβm not going to argue whether professional calibration is a night and day difference and whether spending an extra $300-$400 is worth it.
Some like Bonzo have had a great experience, but I also have read stories of folks saying it made little difference in their setup. Maybe the calibrator was poor?
Iβve used the settings posted on CNET and Rtings for my set and tweaked them with Disney WoW. To me the picture looks great. I donβt have the extra money to find out if it could be better.

Well, when I originally set the Picture Modes to those recommended by RTINGS/CNET and the like, I wasn't satisfied. So it occurred to me that the guy that had my C8 for a day before returning it, changed some of the settings. Once I reset all of the picture modes, I've found that the SDR modes at their default settings, ISF Expert(Dark Room) & ISF Expert(Bright Room) are to my liking. One other cool feature is the "Total Power On Time" counter in the "General" settings. Mine had one hour total on it when I first turned it on and now it has 38. Now LG owners no longer need to go into the Service Menu to find this info out.

I'll look for ISF technician with 4K HDR/Dolby vision tools and experience. Hopefully the charge won't be more than 10% of the TV price. I'm using the settings from Rtings. Maybe tweak again tomorrow for the big game.

So no one is going to mention HDMI 2.1? Time to replace everything once again as the OEM gods intended. lol As far as OLED burn in: Enjoy. BTW I usually keep my C8 on ISF Expert bright.

So bootman, are you giving us a hint as to maybe Comcast offering 8K content in the very near future? I considered waiting on the C9 because of the HDMI 2.1, but several initial reviewers touted LG's 2019 offerings more for the gamers than anything else. The price on my "open box" C8 that the LG rep at BestBuy offered me was too much of a temptation that passing on waiting for the new 2019's was an easy decision.

No US broadcaster is going to provide 8K anytime soon. There will also be no 8K disks. LG offering 2.1 this early in 2019 surprised a few folks. What is the real killer feature?

I've been re-watching some UHD blu-ray movies since I got the LG OLED65C8. "Underworld" has always been a test for "blacks", and all I have to say is WOW!!!..........with my Oppo UDP-203 converting HDR10 to Dolby Vision, this movie looks fantastic and the detailed blacks are absolutely stunning. No crushed blacks here!

No crushed blacks here! That has to be the worst movie in the world to use for testing. There is NO F'ing way I could use that movie for such nonsense. When that movie comes on I see nothing other than Kate's magnificent body, strikingly gorgeous face, and that best of the best a$$ of hers in that tight shiny suit. OMG. I'm getting a woody just thinking about it. π° π

re: OLED. A new breakthrough using copper instead of iridium to create blue light emission was just announced. When it is commercialized that will mean OLED displays at a much lower cost and with much higher power efficiency. Likely to see the market late this year.

That is good news, happy to see OLED prices and power consumption will decline. Saying that as one of the people who paid $5,000 for a plasma TV early on. Learned my lesson.

Just saw this, great buy and the OLED65B8 is $1849. Just checked my store and thereβs only 2 of the C8βs left so Iβd expect the inventory across the US that is left to be sold by weeks end, if not sooner.

I'm still anxiously waiting delivery as we don't close on the new house until March 20th. I purchased mine back in January during a sale, so when I saw the price drop this morning, I called BestBuy and they pricematched it for me. Needless to say, I'm extremely happy!

Well I was informed that my ISF calibrator would be in my area next Friday morning and Iβm set for his services @5pm that evening. If interested Iβll try and post all the graphs of the before and after results. He will be doing calibrations for SDR, HDR and Dolby Vision.

For sure... I'm interetsed in seeing what can be done. Thus far, I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

From the reviewers at RTINGS and CNET, the SDR ISF Expert modes are quite close. I'm highly pleased with the picture now, so I won't be surprised if the SDR mode doesn't change drastically.

Again, what results one person gets can NOT be translated as universal perfection. Much like room correction systems such as Dirac give wildly different correction schemes from room to room, 2 TV's are very much different. You can NOT use settings from some internet post and expect the best. Posting one persons results will do nothing but show how much correction was required for that persons TV.
Also again, I find it amazing what people will go through here to find audio nirvana, but yet when it comes to video, people love to bury their heads in the sand, and won't listen to well known FACTS to save their lives. Geez.

THIS, I will find interesting. And would show a DRASTIC improvement over even sets of just last year, not to mention years ago. So I will be interested to see what your results are.

Geez. It's one of the reasons I invested in a Lumagen back in the day and continue to use a Lumagen Pro today. The auto calibration function is excellent. I live in an area where I would likely need to fly someone in to calibrate my projector, I knew this way back in the day and I knew the bulbs age enough to need touch up quite often. With my Lumagen and my profiled measuring equipment I can complete a pretty damn excellent calibration in 30 minutes and it takes me like 5 clicks of the mouse. I will say that with a lot of the new projectors some of them come out of the box running quite excellent so there isn't always that much to gain, but for me, knowing its running as well as it can after a calibration just makes me feel better when I sit down to watch a flick.
