Looking for input from someone who knows their way around electronics.......because I sure don't. So here is the problem I experienced last night ( scared the hell out of me ) and looking for answers.
Went to hook up my older B&K Ref 30 preamp, to a B&K ST-1430 power amp and a cd player.......all connections were proper, as soon as I flipped on the power amp...holy Sh*^ the noise was terrible, quickly turned off the power amp. I rechecked connections....all good, subbed in another pre-amp, everything worked as it should......tried the B&K Ref 30 again.....same result. I tried moving the RCA's to another output ( rear out ), no incredibly loud noise, but volume was super low, even dialing up the volume knob made very little improvement, but it worked. Hooked back to the ( front out ) and you got it....LOUD NOISES!!!
I really hate to toss this thing in the dumpster at work.....it's a really nice looking piece, but fear there's a crack in a solder on the board or something way out of my league. I'm good with canned air & that electronic cleaner stuff ( no huffing ) but this seems way above my pay grade.
So....you guys handy with soldering guns and trouble shooting equipment think it's worth investigating being fixed?? It's a shame B&K Components went out of business.....I used to live 10 miles from the facility. Thank you for any input you may have.

A B&K Ref 30 can be bought used on Fleabay for $200. It would certainly cost more than that to have yours repaired by a reputable shop. So while I would also have trouble tossing in a dumpster without at least taking a look inside I would recommend that if you are not up to doing proper troubleshooting, dumpster or selling for $50 for parts to someone who needs it might be the only option.

I took a peek under the hood....nothing stood out as wrong. No burnt looking board, no smell, no cracks that I could tell....just strange it worked well when I put it on the shelf a year ago. Thanks for your input.
