For those looking at the Newest Thread tab, this is posted in the Stupid question zone.
Who is done upgrading and happy with their system for the forseale future?
I am writing this because I feel done with my 2 channel system. It is just happily making music and I am enjoying it. It has been a long journey that started when I found the Emotiva brand and they were discussing the XDA-1 Dac. I have been through a lot of gear. Posted many a thread here, but really feel that I can sit back and enjoy.
Final System. Monitor Audio RS8 Tower Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum v1 Rega P2 Schiit Gumby Sonore microRendu
It clicks all the boxes from Metallica to Norah Jones.
Anyone else out there settled?

I'm just about there. I'm 58, and on the path to retirement where all debt (to me) should be avoided. No mortgage, about 6 months car payments. I'm happy with my planning.
Doesn't mean I won't WANT to upgrade!!

I'm 65 and the "end of upgrading" will be when they carry me out of here feet first.

WOW, what a system, brubacca - I'd love to hear it! And although I'm kind of in the DYohn camp on upgrading, I'm slowing down a lot with some of the gear I currently have. Stuff I just love: Audio GD HE-1 preamp Emotiva PA-1 power amps Oppo UDP-205 disc player JL Audio CR-1 electronic crossover Stuff I might consider upgrading still: Subwoofers (DefTech Trinity?) Speakers (surprise me!) DAC (Yggdrasil?) Streamer (SOtM?)

My final upgrade is under way. 4k HDR DV Atmos 7.1.4 HMDI 2.0 HDCP 2.2
Enough already. Once my theater that's currently under construction is done I don't intend to buy any new equipment other than to replace failed hardware.

I do not see myself changing speakers any time soon. I would like to eventually try a different subwoofer as mine are getting old.

I've told myself that a lot over the years. Most recently with the pair of Legacy Aeris I bought a year ago.
Then I had a conversation with Bill Dudleston at Legacy and wound up buying a pair of Valors that are due late Mar/early April.
I'm trying to be done, I really am.... Scott

I'm sure I could "better" my system if I wanted to try. I'm just in this place where the next upgrade makes absolutely zero financial sense.
Plus I've found that any "better" and my bad recordings really sound bad. I don't if any upgrades would really enhance me enjoyment of the music.
If you look at my components the manufacturers have upgrades, but
Cronus 1 ->3 = $1,300 Yggy. = $2,400 UltraRendu. = $ 800 MA Gold 300. = $5,700
---> total $10,200
Not going to happen. Brubacca children are rapidly approaching high school and college. Then its retirememt for us after that.

I'm close.
I know this because of this last round I'm in the middle of right now. It used to be fun. But I am now finding the entire process to be a HUGE chore, aka WORK, and I'm not enjoying it one bit. I just want it to be done and done.
I think I have become less of an audiophile over time. I still want really good sound, but I don't think I need the ultimate sound.

Funny thing is that I was there with my SqueezeBox Rega DAC, USP-1/UPA-200 then I won a pair of Sonus Faber Venere 1.5 speakers... Those free speakers cost me a lot in upgrades to get where I am. Plus my HT/Media system needs some work! Its been neglected for a few years!

What I have now is as good as its going to get for me. Other than adding or taking small pieces out, such as DACs or BR player. The Yamaha A-S1000 is a fantastic sounding amp coupled to the SongTowers. And I have my retirement apartment speakers if need be, the Salk Song Surrounds and a small sub, powered by what ever I have when that 'event' happens. I'm 71yo and money doesn't grow on trees, so I have to reign in my spending!
I'm very satisfied with what I have in the audio rack, and the L/R mains. Other than possibly needing an AVR at some point in the future, what I have is going to be with me for a very long time. Good thing Yamaha has the best track record for reliability.
Now if I could only sell those Polks and the stereo Onkyo with HDMI...
I just spent $120 on 4 telescope eyepieces this morning. If it ain't one hobby it's another that induces spending!

The music stereo 2.1 system is done, totally happy, no updates or upgrades required.
On the other hand the HT system will never be done, just need the Atmos/DTS-X board for the XMC-1 and I can tick off the last real upgrade. But Iβm afraid the updates will never be done. The reality is that HDMI/HDCP changes will force me to do something, even if I donβt want or need to. The TV will need changing eventually and that will kick off a daisy change of updates, as it always has in the past so it will in the future.
Cheers Gary

I like that new AVATAR...β¦β¦.looks like a 21st century version of what's below the HOOVER DAM Thanks kindly 405x5 - I picked it because it looks like the kind of equipment I worked with for 25 years in chemical manufacturing and that I've been consulting about since then.

I've had at least three of what I considered an end-game 2-channel set up over the years, and now I'm liquidating the most recent one. My passion has shifted to headphone listening, with a whole new range of upgrade possibilities!

I've got a ways to go for my end game setup. Right now I'm interested in an HD800S and Emotiva's headphone amp
