It looks like it will support 4 ohm speakers, you have to go into the setup and select 4 ohm. I'm guessing it activates some type of limitation on the amp as to not drive it too hard so it does not overheat. Thank you! I was hoping that was the answer. And I figured it must do something different with them (limitation). I follow this advice myself. The Audioholics site has much information on most if not all of the topics you have brought up. Here are two more..

My take is I really don't worry about speaker specs or even the power specs (to an extent) of amplifiers. I have run speakers with tube amps of only a few watts that sounded great at the volume the amp let me play to and more importantly, that I usually listen to. If you like to rock out (and who doesn't at times), pairing a high efficient speaker (like the Klipsch) with a high power amp (~ 200 Watts) will give you the maximum fun. However if you like to listen to chamber music and moderate volume, you can do that with less efficient speakers and lower power amp gear (like that tube amp I referred to). So when folks ask what kind of music and at what levels, this is the formula they are trying to solve for you. Find a company that will let you audition the speaker in your house for about 30 days or so. That is the ONLY true test that will determine if you like a speaker's sound. After you nail down that most important step, the rest of the audio journey is just refining that sound. The difference in sound between electronics (while real) is orders of magnitude less than the difference between two speakers in the same room. And in the case of AVRs it really comes down to how the room correction software (if used) sounds to you with your speakers in your room. Don't be surprised if you DON'T like the sound of what room correction may suggest for you. They do vary wildly from brand to brand.
