Ok Newb here, first posting. I'm not sure if I have a dilemma or good fortune and am looking for feedback. Currently I'm running my Denon with pre-outs to the A5175 to run a 5.2.2 set up. All running very smoothly with multiple inputs and the sound is good. At the Axpona Emotiva raffel I won an RMC1 processor (OMG I can't believe it!) "huh oh, can I use this with my current set-up" Easily, if I was to drop 2 of the speakers and use the RMC1 and A5175, but then I'd have to buy another amp ($$ comes into play) Not with the Denon involved in the mix. Then I read a lot of posts about software issues with the RMC1, here and on the internet.
The dilemma: Do I continue to run my current set-up, and sell the RMC1? I would never be able to take advantage of the capabilities of the RMC1 in a family room set-up. I could increase to a 7.2.2 Do I keep the RMC1, and try to sell the Denon 3400h, take that money and buy a A500...hopefully expending only about $100 or less in the transaction? Do I take the "keeping the RMC1" scenario, and sacrifice a smooth running set-up for a glitchy set up that would drive me, and worse, the wife nuts?
Any thoughts will be appreciated

Here's the thing....
We are still ironing out some issues with the RMC-1. And, yes, the RMC-1 is probably a lot more complicated to set up, and perhaps a bit more complicated to run (and the Dirac Room Correction that goes with it is still a little while off). However, most people who actually compare the sound quality of an XMC-1 or an RMC-1 to a mass market product like a Denon, or a Yamaha, or a Marantz, agree that the pre/pro sounds better. Not everyone hears a difference; some people who hear a difference don't consider it a big deal; (and some consider ease of use to be more important than sound quality anyway).
However, only you can decide what your priorities are.

If you are happy with your current setup I say sell the RMC and put it in the bank or spend it on other audio goodies Either way it doesn't sound like a dilemma haha, after all you got a free RMC Chad

I would guess you could sell it for $3500ish, which is a lot of money.

Wish I had connected with you at the party, maybe we could have worked out a deal as I ordered my RMC-1 and two more amps and am upgrading from a Denon 8500... I'm still waiting on the new rack so I can't comment on the comparison and honestly think it will be really hard to do an AB but I intend to try with the L/R and some DSD files since the Deonon is already driving a DR3. For what it's worth I seem to recall the 3400 being limited in what formats it supported. My dad has a small 3.1 setup and I think we went up a few models to cover the other sound formats. So while I agree the RMC-1 is probably overkill for what you need you might find the better decoding makes difference. Then again I am an uncompressed snob when it comes to my movies Anyway congratulations I bought because of the discount and credit I won at the party

I'm biased in my opinion about Emotiva preamps and such - rather I think people just know my distaste for them. So I won't give any feedback on what you should necessarily do between keeping one or the other.
What I would suggest you do, however, is do a good amount of market research. Find out if there's anything the RMC will have that you will want going forward, etc. You may also keep an eye on other components in your system that may be a weak point. The end all-be-all of my suggestion is do a fair amount of research on what you have and what you want before making any decisions. You may find that keeping the RMC and selling the Denon is better for you over time.

What are your use patterns between you and the wife on the current setup? If you/her do a lot of source changing/channel changing/DVR changing, the slow HDMI switching and glitches of the RMC will be annoying - no doubt she'll be far more frustrated than you. If you are primary movie watchers, and pretty much turn on-watch-turn off, then you just have to worry about your source components and their glitches with the RMC.
Do you have long term plans to have a dedicated HT setup? If so, the RMC would make a great foundation piece for it when that time comes.

Thanks for the continued input all I'm soaking it up.
I wish I would have known more at the show as well. I did post the RMC in the emporium.

If you wouldn’t buy the RMC-1, with all you’ve learned, then sell it imo.
