I am unsure if this has already been answered. Has consideration been given to the possibility of some future firmware, or board-swap for IMAX enhanced to be added to the XMC-2 & RMC-1L or RMC-1

I should also point out that we're talking about very small differences here.... For example, the S/N rating of the AK4490 DAC chip itself, is 120 dB in stereo mode, and 123 dB in mono mode. β¦ * Another Summary and Clarifications Regarding Balanced Signal PathsJust to be clear, we're talking about the analog signal paths used by the outputs of the DACs. On the RMC-1 and the RMC-1L, everything is balanced, all the way through, on all the channels, and ALL the DAC chips are used in mono mode. On the XMC-2, everything is balanced, all the way through, on all the channels, and but only the DAC chips on the L/C/R channels are used in mono mode. On the XMC-1, all of the DACs themselves are balanced, only the front L/R channels follow a signal path that is balanced all the way through, and none of the DAC chips are used in mono mode (And, yes, the balanced outputs on all of them are all fully balanced outputs.) Thanks AudioHTIT for this summary. It sounds like the RMC's and XMC2 should exceed the S/N for most systems. Not for mine, and while likely academic, I still want the very best performance on all channels. It would be necessary to understand the S/N, distortion, and dynamic range provide by these new processors since the DACs S/N may be limited by the implementation. Currently, there is no way to make an informed decision. The RMC-1 versus RMC-1L is also a tough call for those that don't need the channels until there is a list of committed options. - Rich |

+1 .We know the 3 pre pros share the same processing boards and hdmi pcb . What is usual for a top of the line pre pro is that it gets higher quality components [the analogue stages after the dacs for example] . We have been told that this point is moot [the only difference is the tiffany rca's in apart from the dac's configuration ]; hence as an indicator some API figures between models would explain where the pecking order lies to an extent.. I can see how this would effect sales to an extent ; it was easy when there was just the XMC1 figures available to compare with other ce's efforts and see the opposition sometimes lacking.. A precedent has been set with the XMC1 figures ; as for example we don't know which models may get say Alexa or Google ; to illustrate any differentiator would be a step in the right direction to choose the right model  |

Well, I changed my vote! (and did it with my wallet too). I had previously expected to trade my XMC-1 at the end of July for an XMC-2, and voted that way. Weβve talked about what a great deal that is, and what a great product the XMC-2 appears to be. I figured Iβd use the 2 for some time and then when an expansion module I wanted came out, Iβd use my 40% card on an RMC-1 with module.
July came and went without an XMC-2, and then we heard trade-ins were delayed until October. My home theatre time ends in November when ski season starts, and I decided I was done waiting for Atmos (I once thought Iβd have an RMC-1 last summer). Today I ordered an RMC-1 (if Iβd known how the trade in was going to play out Iβd have done it sooner).
Why did I choose the RMC-1? Ultimately I always planned to buy it after it was first described, though I do hope some kind of module comes along that will allow me to actively bi-amp my Magnepanβs; there could be other modules Iβd buy, but thatβs where my primary interest lies. I also like the all out attempt at a high end product; the dual-mono DACs, Tiffany connectors, rotary encoder. Then thereβs the 4RU size, dual displays, and the clean aesthetic β they appeal to me too. Of course the discount card helps a lot, and Iβm fortunate to be able to make this choice. By purchasing the RMC-1 without a trade in, I donβt lose use of my system for the two week (or more) turn around.
So there it is, next week Iβll be able to post in the RMC-1 Owners thread as ... an owner!

There have been postings on the AVS HTP-1 thread that suggest that the network streaming, including roon support is provided by the Chromecast (1080P) HDMI version.
That works for any processor. You can buy one for $35 on Amazon.

Lonnie Are you saying the rear USB A port on all of the processors can deliver 1A? That might also be useful for those needing additional ethernet ports. This 8 port gig switch runs from a 1A USB port. I use one to connect all of my HT components including the XMC-1, but power it from an AC outlet that includes 2 USB charger ports. Only about $30 on Amazon. Edimax USB Powered 8 Port Gigabit switch |

I just switched my vote to an RMC-1 from an RMC-1L to retain the option to use option boards. - Rich I thought I wanted to stay with a 3RU size processor and that a 4RU RMC-1 would be too over-sized. Now that Iβve replaced my XMC-1 with the RMC-1, itβs like my XPR amps were made to be paired with it, so the size thing has turned out to be a non-factor. I do however think the expansion ports will be something special, possibly a sub module in my future? so here I am after 5 years of great sound from the XMC-1 inevitably looking for the next step in my sound evolution. |

Iβm really am trying to cut down on bricks and wall warts to make cabling cleaner and free up outlets, I now power this switch and my Harmony Hub from USB ports on an AC outlet. If you donβt mind a wall wart, Monoprice has an 8 port Gig switch for under $20, though this one also has some nice power management. One downside of the Edimax is that the USB (power) cord is short and captured, so it canβt be replaced. If you need it further from a USB port you have to add a USB extension. |

Discussion on AVS indicates that the upcoming Monoprice HTP-1 will be using the 1080P Chromecast to provide network features (roon, etc.). The USB powered Chromecast dongle requires 1 amp at 5 volts. This solution works just as well on Emotiva processors. I, like Casey Leedom, use wired ethernet for all stationary devices that are capable to reserve wireless bandwidth and assure the most reliable connection. - Rich |
