Hey All,
Couple of questions for you... I have just purchased the Emo MC-700 to replace my failed Marantz SR5011 receiver. I was only using the Marantz as a pre/pro anyways so I figured the MC-700 would be the perfect way to replace it.
That said, question 1, have you guys noticed any issues with video quality? I am passing both my Xbox one X (4K) and satellite through it. With the satellite, I am having no issues but with my Xbox I am seeing much more blur or delay than I used to. My television is a Samsung Q8 Qled and I am using all 4K Rocketfish cables.
Question 2, I cannot get the subwoofer to play FOR ANYTHING after the Emo calibration. During the calibration cycle it recognizes the subwoofer exists. However, after the calibration, the Emo recognized my LCR as "large" speakers (which they are) but then there is no subwoofer signal. To get the subwoofer moving air, I need to manually switch the LCR to "small" but even then I have barley any subwoofer output.
Thank you,,
James

Hey Adaboy,
Good to hear from you again!
Yeah, so far I am filled with regret on this purchase. I wish I would have searched here first. I relied far too heavily on the reviews on Emo's product page on this purchase.
I tried a few more setting adjustments today and still no luck. The subwoofer was almost non existent and the picture quality is still diminished.
I may be on the search again for something to replace my Marantz.

Makes no sense to continue selling it but.... Try the Marantz 8802a or the 8805. I'm still rocking the 8802a as it has been absolutely perfect for me and family!

Hey Adaboy,
I appreciate the input but I am so completely frustrated with Marantz I don't think I can do it. I have been having bad luck with Marantz of late... I had a SR5010 that had overheating issues and then I had the SR5011 with the random shutting down and popping issues.
The 8802 seems like a beast but unfortunately it is out of my price range. Do you have any other suggestions you have had success with?
Thanks again,
James

You can get at least the same quality the MC-700 would have in an ideal world out of an AVR, so the options out there to replace it are plenty. If you are set on a pre, I'd look at Outlaw, if price is a thing. Otherwise, I've been looking at Rotel and Anthem lately. Parasound has my preference, but they don't have anything that will handle HDMI right now.

I've owned them all and still have Denon and Onkyo in systems throughout the house.

Hey Guys,
Thank you for the responses, it is greatly appreciated.
With regards to the Outlaw, is the manual calibration a big deal? I have never done any manual calibrations before.
Obviously, I have no issues going with a traditional AVR. I just went with the MC-700 because with my external amplification, I don't need an internal amplifier in the pre/pro or receiver.
I did see that crutchfield currently has the Onkyo TX-RZ820 for sale at $499 right now. I am not the biggest Onkyo fan, but to be fair, I have never actually owned one. Assuming the advertised retail price is correct, this may be a steal at 50% off. The only other issue with this is that it is so friggen tall for an AVR. It would be a tight fit into my home theater stand. I have AC Infinity fans though so I don't think it would be an issue.
Ill let you know what else I can find. With my poor luck of late with receivers I would definitely prefer something new. Although, in the case of the MC-700 that didn't seem to do me any favors.

Went from MC-700 to Denon x4400 and love it. I will say MC700 was better sounding but not enough to justify it being terribly supported from day 1.

Hey Stads,
Good to hear from you Bud! Thank you for the response. I will check out the x4400 and see what I can find.
I agree, the MC-700 sounds fantastic (less the subwoofer output etc) but I agree, I am more than frustrated with the overall functionality.
I am really thinking of moving forward with an AVR vs a pre/pro. For whatever reason, the pre/pros available are just so much more expensive than AVRs with pre-outs.

To enable the sub, go into the menu and select "doublebass" I did this for stereo listening for 2.1 channel. Your sub should work under Dolby or any 5.1 decoding. Give the doublebass a try.

With regards to the Outlaw, is the manual calibration a big deal? I have never done any manual calibrations before. James For some people it might be, but I will say that I have never used auto-cal outside of initial use - and have always reverted it back to flat. Sure an automatic configuration sounds like a good idea, but the problem is that YOUR ears are not the calibration mic. They are YOUR ears, and you will hear differently from the mic. I can echo what has been said about Denon. I replaced my MC-700 with a Denon x4200 - and have had no changes in audio quality. I have had much better performance in functionality, though. Hands down it was the best choice I have made.
