Due to circumstances in my life I am having trouble with headphones that weigh on my head and my neck. The neck simply has trouble after some time of wearing.
I am in LOVE with the sound of the better Sennheiser units like the HD700. I like its clarity, nice tone, and lack of smear in dynamics. The HD700 weighs 0.6 pounds or 9.6 ounces. A reasonable weight but unfortunately it is too heavy for long stretches. Are there high quality headphones that encompass the ear that are also lightweight? Headphones that can compete or beat the HD700? Preferrably compete with HD800's.
I am aware that the solution are IN-EAR monitors, but let's leave that for another thread.

So sorry to hear about your condition. Why no consideration of iem’s ? I just purchased my first real pair but with one caveat, the are noise canceling iem’s. I purchased the Sony WF-1000MC3. Most likely not what you may be getting from the HD700’s but when your neck gets tired You could switch over to these, the noise canceling is a big bonus! 😏

garbulky There are some of the 5xx series senns that weigh a little less, but I haven't found too many that are significantly lighter. I will say that I purchased the Audeze iSine 10 - planar IEM - and have been pleasantly surprised by them. They are actually open headphones and I've found them comfortable. They had a deal where they were $150, and at that price, it was worth it. You might be able to find some used for $100 or so. You might have more thoughts over at head-fi.org

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
As for the question of why not IEMs - I'm not OPPOSED to it. I'm positive there's a lot of amazing IEMs out there. It's just not what I want fit wise. I strongly prefer the over the ear headphones. Even on ear headphones aren't my thing. It just feels off to me. Also my headphone amp is pretty noisy for sensitive units like IEMS though I suppose the Audeze may not be.
So perhaps in the future I'll explore them but for now, I am still looking specifically for around the ear lightweight headphones that can outdo or at least match the Sennheiser HD700.

I hear you... I definitely don't like on-ears. If there's a dealer near you with any of the iSines, I'd give them a listen. They aren't _normal_ IEMs, instead they have a large planar driver outside the ear and don't really rely on being jammed into your ears. The sound is very impressive, flat with great detail and strong bass and not the in head experience of some IEMs. But as with all headphones, fit and comfort are the number one factor.
Since I'm in New Zealand these days, when they had the sale I purchased them and had my first pair sent to my brother, who promptly purchased a pair for himself and then bought the pair I'd sent for his brother in law. Then I purchased a second pair and had someone from work collect them, he gave a listen and purchased a pair for himself. I can't justify their current pricing, but at $150 with the cypher cable they were well worth it.

garbulky The Sony WH-1000MX3s are 20g lighter, I don't know if that's enough of a difference. The bose headphones are 240-250g Good luck finding something.
