Guys, I am installing my RMC-1 tomorrow and I was wondering what most of you are using for a remote control. Are you using the OEM brick, or more along the lines of a logitech harmony? I will have the RMC-1 tied into my network so if there is any app that is worth looking at me know. Thanks, David

Can you program the remote for the emotiva codes, or how does it control the RMC? I'm sorry for the questions I just have never really used those remotes, but I want something to use besides the Emotiva remote if I can.

I’m on my iPhone so no long explanation, but you just connect it to your laptop and you select what devices you have. The RMC-1 isn’t in their base, but the XMC-1 is and they share the same commands. More when I’m in front of my laptop.

I use a harmony 650 too David ; simple to program [up to about 8 components] and inevitably the RMC1 will join its massive database [even my beyonwiz p2 got a guernsey]; you can even request iirc . You can program macros to start the whole system with 1 button[with timers] or just program the buttons you want to assign . Its really intuitive dragging and dropping on the web portal to customise exactly what suits you.. The 650 has a 4 button lcd screen which you can flip through if you have a lot of options in a menu [ and its very cheap - I got 2 so I can always have 1 charged and ready to go when the nicads run out ]

I use the Harmony Ultimate Home, it has a Hub that allows you to control everything via the Remote, iPad, or iPhone (probably Android too). You can set it up and make changes all on the iPad, iPhone or laptop / desktop. One nice thing with the Hub is that you can send a wired IR signal directly from the hub to the RMC/XMC and turn all the IR receivers off (or have the unit behind closed doors). There’s also an (extra cost) Hub Extender if you want to add home automation.

It's great for the kids and wife... and me when I'm lazy 👍😳.

I may actually buy it somewhere else, I just want to see if they have a demo setup there.

I like the hub extender too, have many lights, switches, even locks controlled by it. I’ll go look at the harmonies tomorrow at Best Buy. That seems like the way to go. I’ve never seen a Harmony demo there, but they usually have good prices, I’ve bought several there over the years.

Using monoprice hdmi cables (and a monoprice active hoss cable from the RMC to my projector) I have had no handshake issues at all. The input selecting is a tad bit slow, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be based on some of the things I’ve read. I have not set up levels or distance yet, but so far so good. But this brick remote has 0 WAF, lol

David, With BestBuy pricing in-store many times is not the same as on-line, so check as they will honor the on-line if cheaper. They also will match Amazon, so check that as well. Also while the Harmony 650 is popular here on the Lounge, I believe it’s discontinued and has been replaced with the Harmony 665(which allow control of 10 devices compared to the 8 devices by the 650). Otherwise the 650 and 665 are the same and they both use AA batteries instead of the proprietary batteries made for the Harmony 950/Elite/Ultimate remotes. Personally I prefer the the 650/665 because of the AA batteries and if you buy rechargeable AA batteries like the Panasonic Eneloops, they last several weeks and you can just swap out with a second set when time to recharge. Amazon and BestBuy have the 665 for $49 which is the best price for a brand new one right now.

First write down the model numbers of everything you’ll be plugging into your RMC-1 and then setup on a computer. It’s really easy, just takes about a half hour your first time. Substitute the RMC-1 for the XMC-1 when setting up. Your good to go. Enjoy!

I have the Harmony One which still works great on my main system and the 650 on a secondary system. The 650 is wonderful for the price. I would go with the replacement 665. I think you will be happy.

I went ahead and bought a Harmony Elite. I found one on ebay as factory refurbished for $158 and tried it out. I set it up yesterday and I am very happy with it. I have all five input devices set up and it seems like I have complete control of everything from the Harmony remote. This does seem like a much more elegant way to control everything than having to use three different remotes. I went ahead and turned of CEC on the RMC-1 since I do not see a need for it with the Harmony.
