Starting my first football season without cable, and I realize I need a tuner so I can watch games on my projector. Can anyone recommend a good set top box style tv tuner that I can connect between my attic antenna and my receiver? Everything I can find seems like junk. I have no need for DVR functionality.
Thanks,
siggie

I have the one from Channel Master, very good though I don't watch a lot of traditional TV. Works well and is easy to setup.

Thanks, siggie Depending on what games you want to watch, I just turn on Sling for the 3 months of the season because I primarily watch college football. I love that you don't need a contract anymore. If you're just looking for a tuner for locals, I bought an HD HomeRun, which allows me to use the Plex app (I run a Plex server for my movies) for Live TV and DVR. There's also an HD HomeRun app you could use if you don't want to run Plex. I had tried the little ChannelMaster dongle, but the tuner was really, really weak and wouldn't pull in half the channels that my Samsung TV was pulling from the same antenna. I have a feeling that your location will play a big role in how well various tuners will work in your situation.

I wasn't referring to a dongle but a full blown tuner with channel master. Not quite the same critter. I live in an area of the country that is far from any major cities and still get excellent enough receptions with an antennae mounted in our attic. That said most of the time we just stream via our Apple TV.

Several years ago I purchased this: www.epvision.com/HDTVSTB/phd208main.htmIt picks up all of the network stations and more, 30 channels in total, with just an indoor amplified antenna next to the TV. I live North West of Boston just South of the New Hampshire border.

Thanks, guys. I decided to try HDHomerun duo. It will work with my projector through the Xbox one, so no need for another remote (which I would need for the Channel Master Tuner) and it gives me the possibility of using it on another TV without purchasing another box or watching TV on my computer monitor.

I am looking into this for when I will replace the Win7 computer that I am currently using as a DVR. The setup is now a little convoluted, as this computer has a Hauppauge TV Tuner card, fed by an attic passive antenna. I can watch in real time or record using Windows Media Center. Recordings are then broadcast on my home network using a Plex server and watched in my downstairs main HDTV via the Plex app on Roku. Since Win10 no longer supports Windows Media Center, once I get a new computer the HDHomeRun Duo looks like an attractive option for recording, and with the added benefit of distributing content over a network in real time. That may allow me to do without the amplified antenna downstairs and use only the passive one in the attic, which gets better reception.

MusicHead, I finally got my HD HomeRun Duo set up. I also added an antenna amplifier and an LTE filter at the same time. The HD HomeRun works great and was easy to set up since I had all the antenna wiring (coax) and ethernet wiring in the places I needed them. I am using an XBox One and a computer as my two "tuner" options. My only complaint is that one channel, our local PBS channel 26, is not picked up by the HD HomeRun, yet is picked up by my TVs that have built in digital tuners. This is annoying, and I'm not sure of the reason. Other than that, seems like a better deal than buying two cheap tuners for the same price or two higher quality tuners four much more. siggie

So, when you write you are using the Xbox and computer as your "tuner", I guess you mean that from each one of them you can select what channel to watch? How is that done, do you have an app running on each? It would be really sweet if the HD Homerun could stream live TV to a Roku via Wi-Fi and be controlled from the Roku!

Correct, you install the HDomerun app on each device. It appears that the app is in beta for Roku. siggie
