Just to get some opinions form you guys. First let me state Im happy with my XMC-1. It does give me problems with the power up but not a biggie. I used to be able to hit cable remote power and everything would power up. Now I power on with cable remote and Samsung 4k tv powers on. Then I use Emo remote and it powers on XMC-1 along with triggers to the XPA-5 and the Outlaw 5000 with no issues. All CEC setting are active. Like I said its not a big deal. What Id really like to do would be to walk into my mancave and just say ALEXA TURN ON SYSTEM. Now Im rambling and getting off topic all by myself. Would I be better off doing the trade up with my XMC-1 to the XMC-2 OR purchase the 2.0b Upgrade card and install myself?
How much is Emotiva offering for XMC-1 trade in?
What would be the advantage going to the XMC-2 and would it be logical cost wise?

If you’re happy with your XMC-1 but need 4K it will cost you $424 (and currently available) to upgrade yourself. If you trade in your XMC-1 on an XMC-2 and you have all the accessories but no 4K it will cost you $1000 plus shipping. Probably the biggest argument for upgrading if you don’t need immersive audio (Atmos/DTS:X) is a new 5 year warranty. I use Google home and Alexa with my harmony remotes. It works well, you just need a hub based remote.

No mention of object based audio here, so no reason to abandon the XMC1. When my Samsung monitor blows, I’ll need the board upgrade for UHD switching. Power up is totally different for me and all CEC are “unchecked”. Bill |

If you don`t intend to go to a > 5.1 setup with Atmos/DTS:X then I would stay with the XMC-1 and just upgrade the HDMI board.
I did the same.

The XMC2 is a lot more stable than the RMC1 was when released and it has a new architecture based on the powerful new griffin lite dsps compared to the older TI chipsets in the XMC1 ; this will serve it well in the future with possible firmware upgrades eg its expected it will receive the new dirac 2.0 rather than the current older version and features like the dirac sub bass management system may come to pass . I myself do not run 4K yet or have plans for Atmos or the such but I do plan to upgrade, I may one day end up with a 4K projector so another $600 from buying just the 4K borad for my XMC-1 to have a new unit and 5 years of warranty and bragging rights(haha) I thought why not, it's an amazing offer from Emotiva IMO.

My experience with the upgrade board has been very good. It’s been completely stable with the last firmware update. My only complaint would be the time it takes to switch between inputs on the XMC-1. For example, between Directv and my Apple 4k. I’ve gotten used to it. I’m happy with the XMC-1, but it’s a no brainer to go for the latest tech and another 5 year warranty. |

For me the 4K upgrade board still isn´t stable. And it is obvious that Emotivas focus isn´t on this anymore...  So in your situation I would go the XMC-2 road. |

Why would they still be selling a board with known problems for 400+ dollars with the knowledge of it? From where im sitting I guess ill just remain on the fence for a while.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the XMC-1 and kudos to EMO for it but Im not going to buy a tire knowing its going to go flat.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the XMC-1 and kudos to EMO for it but Im not going to buy a tire knowing its going to go flat. Two reasons... first, because it’s the same identical HDMI board that’s used in both RMC models and the XMC-2. Second, to fulfill their promise of “future compatibility” to the original XMC-1 purchasers. While firmware updates to the V3 HDMI board are ongoing, and some have actually helped to solve real problems, it seems as though their focus has been fixed upon releasing those firmware updates for the RMC-1 and not so much in porting those updates back to the XMC-1 platform. Their (Emotiva’s) solution moving forward is focused on “upgrading” current XMC-1 owners to the XMC-2 since it shares the same firmware as the RMC platform. In the form of a genuine opinion from an XMC-1 owner who’s as “Emotiva Blue” as they come, but has also struggled with the flaws and quirks of the V3 board since its release, if given the options that are available now, I would spend the additional $600 (over the cost of HDMI board alone) and totally replace the XMC-1 and opt instead for a platform that stands a chance of not only eventually working as expected, but also being fully supported down the road. Of course a brand new 5 year hardware warranty helps the decision making process a bit easier too. While my frustrations, and eventual throwing in of the towel, has taken me down a different path and solution, I will still take advantage of the offer and trade in my XMC-1 for an XMC-2. It may take some time and additional firmware improvements to persuade me to take it out of the box, but I do have faith that it will eventually be what the XMC-1 once was. A “rock solid” performer as both an audio processor as well as a reliable video switcher. IMO, currently (with the V3 board installed), it only does one of those well... Hope this helps... |

This sounds to me like your XMC-1's CEC controller chip has failed. Those of us who have had problems using the ARC function (also CEC dependent) of our XMC-1's have discovered the the controller chip was bad. See THIS post for instructions on how to perform the loop-back test on your XMC-1. If you indeed have a bad CEC controller circuit, a trip back to Emotiva for service would be required as that IC is not located on the video board (it’s located on the front panel board). That, alone, may help make your upgrade decision a bit easier. Hope this helps...  |

I use these, they work and I like the length options, check the thread above for other choices. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24187doc1963 makes very good and experienced points, especially if your CEC chip is bad; if not you don’t loose much by trying the V3 board, IF your second choice is an XMC-2. Emo gives you the cost back on a XMC-2 trade in (though not seemingly on the other models). |

Consider too ; the HDMI 2.0B board was designed to go forward with the current Analog Devices griffin lite models . The XMC1 had a Texas instruments chipset with a totally different bit perfect switching chip that had to be removed so the new Panasonic board had to be "shoehorned" in and made to work with that code . Going forward future firmwares will be a lot easier to sync imo  |

I don't understand why it worked before and now it doesn't. Like I said, its not a huge problem but it would be nice to have everything power up with one button power on. Weird thing is when I shut system off I hit cable remote power off and everything shuts off. When I use cable remote and power back on the Samsung tv and cable box are the only things that power on. Then I have to use XMC-1 remote and that turns on the XMC-1 and the XPA-5 and the Outlaw 5000 via triggers. |

In my experience Samsung "Anynet" (their name for CEC) is broken. It will turn off devices, but when the TV is turned on it won't power on a receiver, even if the TV is set to only output sound via the receiver and not the internal speakers. I ended up replacing the Samsung TV with a cheapo TCL TV instead - at least their CEC works a little better for power on and power off (although not volume control). |
