Is there a comparison chart that shows the differences between the XMC-1 | XMC-2 | RMC-1L | RMC-1? XMC2, trouble free - lowest price RMC1, lots of problems - highest price😂

XMC2, trouble free - lowest price RMC1, lots of problems - highest price😂 Interesting idea, do you think that they have different problems? ... or was that truly just a joke? It was just a joke of course. But I would be furious if I spent $5k on the RMC1 and over a year later, some of them can't get thru a movie and there is still no sign of Dirac. I'm extremely happy with my XMC2 and my only complaint is no Dirac. I literally have no problems and I enjoy watching movies with no concerns (even the DTS issue is fixed now). I think I'm gonna try REW once I can find a calibration file for the EMM-1 mic. But getting back on topic - all 3 pre-pros are good options and depending on someone's needs one of them should fit the bill. If I was buying a unit today, I would have bought the RMC-1L. I like how all channels are in mono mode and maybe that would improve my 5.1.4 Atmos for movies.

Greetings all! Long time lurker and Emotiva fan. I currently have an XPA-7 gen 3 amp which and a Marantz AV7704 processor. I just completed a deal for an Emotiva 40% card and was all set to jump on the XMC-2 until I ran across this thread. Having the 40% card opens up other possibilities and I may be interested in the RMC-1L.
About my system, I live in a pretty modest home in which I'll never be able to expand beyond my current 7.2 SVS speaker system. So I see no need to go for the big dog in the RMC-1.
However, I'm wondering what advantage, if any, the RMC-1L would provide me over the XMC-2 in my set up?
I suspect nothing, but I don't know anything about "mono mode" and such to make an educated decision, and was hoping someone could help me understand that main difference between the XMC-2 and RMC-1L.
Thank you for your time!
Justin
PS I'll update my signature with my current system.

It's the one I'm looking at too, just waiting for ALL features to he included before I make a decision.

The biggest SQ difference is the surround and Atmos channels are all fully balanced. It is questionable if you could actually hear that difference, but in theory the RMC-1L should sound better (ever so slightly) in home theater usage. The rear connections are a little bit better on the RMC-1L but I can't really think that makes any difference at all. To me the RMC-1L looks a lot better than the XMC-2. I really do like the dual screens and there is a lot of info that can be displayed on the two OLED screens versus the one on the XMC-2.

Thanks for the information! For $600 more, it seems like it a no brainer to me.
Now I can't wait to receive the card!
ETA I will wait to ensure all features become available as mentioned above. What I'm reading about Dirac is concerning.

What I'm reading about Dirac is concerning. Justin I will just caution you on the RMC vs XMC2 - and this isn’t because I own the XMC2 but would have bought the RMC1L if it was available at the same time. While I literally have no issues with the XMC2, if you go to the RMC1 thread, some of those guys can’t get thru a movie. It makes no sense to me since they have the same architecture and same firmware. But I wanted to make sure you were aware of this. Also the XMC2 is fully balanced across all channels. As it was explained to me, mono mode means one fully balanced AKC DAC can operate in stereo mode or mono mode. So in the XMC2, outside of the front 3 channels (and possibly the sub channel), one AKC DAC would service 2 channels. In the RMC1L and RMC1, one AKC DAC services one channel. This is supposed to increase the S/N ratio. So if the reported reliability is the same then no question you should get the RMC1L, but with the reported issues and if they apply to the RMC1L or not being in question, I think you gotta make sure that it’s the best way to go.

Thank you very much for the additional insights. I have been reading that thread which gives me pause for the time being, including the Dirac delay. In any case, I'm in no hurry and I can wait a couple months to see how things develop. I'll have the card ready when I decide to jump. The XMC2 is probably the sweet spot for me. Justin

Justin I got the RMC-1L and glad I did. We've also watched several movies without issue including Dolby Vision. The only thing I've done is set the Oppo to output PCM instead of bitstream because of the chance the 1L might not lock on to the audio. The only side effect is that the 1L doesn't display the Codec being played and instead shows PCM x.x

I have a RMC-1L and we watch many movies without any bugs. Actually since firmware 1.7 the unit is pretty solid once a content is started.
The problems now are more with source switching, signal lock and others littles things. And of course Dirac availability.
With my RMC-1L I can listen to music, watching TV and movies without any bugs for many hours. It’s far from the disaster some are screaming.

I wonder which model sounds the best. It would be nice if someone could compare their sonic quality to each other. It would be a laborious task, but the results would be interesting to know. I suspect Emotiva already knows the answer....

A year and a half later I'm asking this same question.
What is the current take on XMC-1 vs XMC-2 vs RMC-1L vs RMC-1?

A year and a half later I'm asking this same question. What is the current take on XMC-1 vs XMC-2 vs RMC-1L vs RMC-1? What is more interesting is a read through of the existing posts in this forum! A year and a half later, most of the issues and problems are still the same or if they have been resolved, they've been swapped for different ones. No joke.

What are the big problems right now? I've tried not to read too far back on the issues thinking different software upgrades might have taken care of them.

I think there's some issues still there, and some old ones swapped for new ones, but at least for me with XMC-2, while there are still some issues that I wish were fixed by now, it's working well enough to keep it. I look at it like owning a Lamborghini.... it's finicky, you have to do some things in a certain order, it lacks some of the features common to lesser products, but OH HELL does it sound good!!!

I used to think cleaning records was a pain in the ass. Now I think that’s better than micromanaging 16 channels (Discwasher to the rescue)
