I wanted tunes in the kitchen/dining area and previously found I could play internet radio and Amazon Music HD from my iPhone on WiFi. Here’s what I came up with for around $182:
Lepai LP-2020TI Digital Hi-Fi Audio Mini Class D Stereo Amplifier $24.88
Dayton Audio B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair $30.88
Monoprice 8-Inch 60-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black $57.00
PST-YD100W universal laptop power supply adapter, 100 watts adjustable 12-24 volts DC $29.50
Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter $39.00
The Lepai digital amplifier cannot reach potential specs with the supplied 12VDC 3 amp power adapter but the PST-YD100W can provide 19 VDC at 4 amps to get everything it is capable of.
I used 16 gauge speaker wire from the Lepai to the high level inputs of the Monoprice subwoofer and the 20 gauge speaker wire that came with the Dayton B652s from the Monoprice subwoofer high level inputs to the Dayton B652s.
The Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter allows using my Audioengine D3 DAC while providing power to both the DAC and the iPhone.
The above setup punches way above its weight class!
