I've been waiting for the trade ins to be available again to send in my XMC-1 for either the XMC-2 or the RMC-1L. But I noticed that they don't support eARC. I emailed support and they let me know that is possible it will be added in the future which being a pessimist I assume it won't. The other options I looked at (Marantz 8805 and 7705 and the Monoprice) already have eARC. They seem like they might be more or less equivalent in other ways to the Emos, the 7705 offering less channels but I'm maxing out at 7.1.4 so that's fine. Having uncompressed ability of eARC seems like a good "future proof" aspect of eARC although I'm not sure when and if any of the streaming services will get there so not sure how helpful that actually is (maybe there is another use case I'm not thinking about). The lip sync correction also sounds helpful as I've had issues with this off an on for eternity... But I've owned Emotivas for more than 15 years so hard for me to imagine going elsewhere but I guess I curious as to what other think... Does eARC matter? I know the Monoprice isn't out yet so hard to say about it but the reviews I've read on the Marantz seem positive. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks!

Whilst eARC sounds like a good idea (as does the devil’s twins ARC & CEC) my view is that it will inherit the same problems which are caused by inconsistent implementation by manufacturers.
The second question I have is what ongoing use will it be if the TV manufacturers continue to drop support of streaming apps not long after they introduce new models. Buying a new Apple TV, Fire, Roku etc every couple of years isn’t a big deal, well not as big a deal as buying a new panel because it no longer supports my favourite streaming service. Not to mention the unfriendly operation when compared to a designated streamer.
Strange that you mention lip synch, back in 2003 the ARC (HDMI 1.3) standard included automatic lip synch, it’s been a long time since then for something that was supposed to be adopted universally.

Lip sync can be influenced by video processing delays over and above what hdmi auto sync can manage phicar . Things like scaling ;motion interpolation;nr; motion adaptive deinterlacing etc can all slow down video throughput compared to the audio . One way of looking at it Also consider the chances of lossless audio with atmos rather than lossy dd+ with atmos being sent to your display app because that's what E-ARC is for .. If they do send lossless audio one day it will be at the expense of the video bandwidth ; lossless chews up bandwidth and I wouldn't want something like Disney + screwing up the built in display apps or a new codec that replaces mpeg4 video and consigns a good tv to the bin.. |

Going with a dedicated streamer will always be a more robust solution, period. Inevitably, the built-in apps for TV's will stop being supported, not to mention the cluster that ARC has been in the past with every company using their own version. I'd like to believe that eARC will be different, but at this point I just don't care since I've since written it off. It really is too bad that the industry can't/won't stick to a strict protocol for CEC/ARC/eARC and make it work for everyone without all of the headaches it brings. What an AppleTV4K/Roku/FireCube/etc./etc brings to the table at this point can't be beat. Last night I watched several AppleTV+ shows and Disney+ movies in Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision and that is the best streaming I've heard to date. The Star Wars movies were raised to a completely new level video & audio-wise. If I had been wanting to use CEC/ARC/eARC for lossless audio, I would've been disappointed.
