Recently upgraded from XMC-1 to RMC-1L and awaiting delivery.
I started to think about the XMC1 App for IOS which I used all the time with an ipad mini in my Home Theater setup (which I also use for Oppo,Cambridge,Crestron and some Insteon lighting options). Some people , including myself , usually have a dedicated Remote for their Home Theater (ie Crestron, Control 4 or the Emotiva Remote itself etc etc)....but its kinda nice having that app on a phone or ipad......which is usually in ones pocket or close by when walking around your house/deck/garage/pool and having that functionality.
There is no specific IOS app for the RMC1 or RMC1-L . Talking to Emotiva tech support, They advise that some customers have indicated interest in this but does not sound like it is a priority. He advised that the xmc1 app may or may not connect and have some limited functionality.
Given the amount of effort Emotiva is trying to sell these units and the price, I thought I would open this thread for discussion/Interest.
PS....A call to Emotiva would not hurt if you are interested.

The IOS Remote Control App was actually developed by a third party.
HOWEVER....
The XMC-1 Remote Control App simply mimics the commands sent by the remote control... And the remote control command set is the same for the XMC-1 and the RMC-1. (While we haven't done much testing on it - the same one should work for both.)
The actual code sent when you press each button on the remotes is identical for both...
However, what three or four of the buttons DO has been changed on the RMC-1.
The two buttons that previously selected specific PLIIx modes on the XMC-1 now select Direct and All Stereo modes (since the RMC-1 no longer has PLIIx as an option). And the trim buttons now work a little differently (now one set of Trims controls all the Height speakers and another set controls all the Surrounds). The easiest way to compare the differences is to look at pictures of the two remotes side by side.

Not a bad idea.
If I recall correctly and I may be wrong, the app for the XMC-1 was created by a Forum member. Is that right? I'm not sure what Emotiva's role was in the creation and maintenance.

The app turns the unit on and allows you to control zone 2. That's about it. I have integrated my Samsung Smartthings hub, along with Eventghost, to send commands via the network api. It works like a champ. If you have anything that can run some python code, I'd recommend giving this a shot.

It seems as if the app doesn't function because it doesn't realize the unit is on.

I'll play around with it tonight to confirm.

Yes. I too am able to perform most of the important functions with the XMC-1 app. It works pretty well on an iPhone or iPad!

Ooops... My bad... I was thinking about other remote control options... like the Harmony remote... which operate via IR. What I said is true for ANY method that uses the IR codes. However, the IOS App is network based, which is a slightly different matter... Since we haven't looked into that very much so far I defer to user experiences... However, the IOS App IS a third party App... so you might want to contact support for the XMC-1 App and ask about an RMC-1 version.

(It was actually subcontracted to an outside programmer... sort of).
In any case - I will pass that on.

I second this request for an updated app and I'll also drop the developer a note on it through the App Store. I'll be using Control4 for network control of my RMC-1, but sometimes that hiccups with other devices and I'm forced to default to an iOS app for temporary control (i.e. AppleTV and Nvidia Shield).

I third the request (is that an actual phrase?) for a remote App. I think it's a massive mistake if it simply looks like the metal remote. They are about as different as an engraving on stone and a webpage. A true App would use all the benefits that can be achieved using that format, e.g; bigger buttons that are easier to use, the ability to get volume information when the XMC-2 is out of sight and I'm playing music, ease of use of Zone 2 while the main remote stays in the main room, the ability to get messages from Emotiva firmware updates and direct messages on current specials in the Emotiva Shop. If you throw a little money at creating the App and it looks and works really well it can be adapted for your other processors... and you've provided a backlit remote that doesn't require line of sight as it's working over a wi-fi network. As I've said before in another post... a metal remote is nice if you are attacked in a darkened home theater room and need to bludgeon your assailant to death, but it's terrible when you are felling all the buttons trying to simply reduce the volume.

I would disagree with this characterization, first the existing iPad app is not just a bigger version of the iPhone app, and does take advantage of the format, I guess button size is a personal preference. Also the current App does (almost) mirror the display so you can already see the volume when the processor is out of sight. I use the current App quite a bit, especially with Zone 2 when I’m outside. However, other than the display, it does pretty much duplicate the functionality of the physical remote. Hair Nick has stated in another thread that an updated App is in the works, though I wouldn’t take that to mean it’s on the front burner. I too would welcome a G3P based App — including (at a minimum) taking the existing App’s ‘Display’, and mirroring the exact OSD info. If we could also see other display options that would be a nice bonus. Of course deep / direct control of the G3P advanced features would be needed too, knowing what functions are in the new API would help to make a more complete wish list for the new App.

Basically you would update your settings on your ipad, then it would "download" to your G3P after you hit save etc. That would allow you to very quickly make adjustments instead of the lag that is on the current G3P. The issue I see with this would be keeping the app current as menu options change.

I'm very interesting in seeing the iOS app updated and expanded to work with the RMC-1/1L. The current app does not work at all with my iPhone 12 Pro, although it did work (mostly) with my previous iPhone 10S (XS).
An extension of the app to setup the processor off-line would also be great. At this point, an app to control and setup the unit is really required to keep the Emotiva processors competitive. I would also be willing to pay a fee for the app, if that would make developing it more appealing to Emotiva or a third party.
Are there any current efforts or plans along these lines?
