I get this metallic sound from my rear speakers almost every day and (mostly) from the surround decoder on 2.0ch sources. I find that a switch of audio mode to "Direct" and back to "Auto" usually fixes it. But as you say hopefully fw3.0 will come to the rescue.

My wife hears it more than I do. It only happens using the Apple TV 4K and only with Paramount. Not an everyday thing. Random.

Same here… pretty annoying when other listeners are present. I’ve learned to deal with a LOT with this RMC-1.

Thought I might check in. You know, see if v3.0 slipped into existence without my knowledge. Alas. I'm thinking January maybe? About the time the Marantz AV 10 comes out. Decisions, decisions.... Marantz really raised prices with the AV 10. $3k more then the 8805. Ouch... Plus they charge you extra for the Dirac license. At that price point Dirac really should be included. Only issue I have had with my XMC-2 is the metallic sound that happens from time to time. A full power cycle seems to fix it and not sure what causes it. Hoping they fix it with new firmware. If I was looking at that Marantz I would get the Anthem AVM90 and save the extra $1.5k I too will get that “metallic” sound you’re referring too once a month or so, I just change sound modes to “stereo” and back and it resets it with having to go through a power cycle.

With energy prices skyrocketing in Europe, sustainability (and wallet) has become top of mind. Noticing a substantial difference in energy levels between a week vacation where i had turned the power to the stereo fully off and week where i left it in the usual standby i took a closer look. Suspect were the 13 hypex ucd amps. Putting on an inrush current limiter avoided the fuse tripping and allowed me to put it all behind fibaro plug to easily turn it on/off in my absence. It also allowed me to measure…. The culprit is my xmc-2, hungrily taking 33 watt, 0.8 kWh a day. Dusting off the manual, turns out it is in ‘video on standby’ mode. I switched it off… i can wait a few extra seconds for it to turn on (my tv takes longer). In doing so I saved 10% off my electricity bill!!! The choice between save power modes without guilt is what we in Aus are beginning to appreciate as we decide to give the poor electricity infrastructure a break .Those with solar panels [ very popular with government incentives ] can add batteries to take advantage in the night what the solar produces in the day This [even given the lack of sun in the northern hemisphere] is the way of the future to wean us of fossil fuels] . And you can charge your ev car for free with lower nightly tarrifs but this is all o/t of course

There are about 1,000 coal fires burning around the world. There is an abandoned coal town in the USA, Centralia, Pennsylvania, that has been burning for over 60 years. China has about 30 of these coal fires. No one has any desire to put them out so the coal could be used to produce energy. The hypocrisy of this Beast system reeks to heaven.

You might want to check your settings…. And perhaps for Emotiva to put a nice sustainability message out to all their customers: check, and turn it off unless you really use it. If you do the math concerning video on standby mode of the RMC, it's 2.4Kw/month. That's about 50 cents where I live, but going up. It's confusing to me that 2.4Kw would be 10% of a monthly electric bill, or do you mean for the week you were gone? I would have to live in a cardboard box to sustain that kind of electrical usage. I would love a $15/month electric bill. It's also confusing to me that the RMC would be left on during a week vacation, without any concern, especially where your energy costs are high. What is the expense and energy use of a week vacation? Who uses the RMC while we are on vacation? Leaving the RMC in low power mode when not in use also gives us the opportunity to reset it. Do you really need a message from EMO to turn off your RMC? Can’t you just put your hand on the case and feel the warmth when it’s turned on? Edit - Sorry, I miscalculated. I didn't carry a zero. 24Kwh/month and about $5/month. That is about 10% of my electric bill too. Of course, the only way to get the percentage to zero is never turn on the XMC/RMC. That may yet be coming.

I reached out to support about a month ago just to see what they had to say, and they suggested that fw3.0 might fix it. This issue combined with the popping both with and without loudness on are my two remaining pain points with the XMC-2. Really hoping these are resolved in fw3.0.

I was kind of thinking the same thing... but I guess it depends on where you are. Here in Tennessee that would be a negligible percentage of my electric bill - at least when I'm home. I know that my refrigerator, washer, dryer, oven, and air conditioner all use far more than that. And, while I haven't measured it, my cable service provided WiFi router, which doesn't even have a power switch, makes quite a lot of heat too. (But, apparently, in Europe, people have managed to figure out how to live without using much electricity... and have become accustomed to doing so.) With energy prices skyrocketing in Europe, sustainability (and wallet) has become top of mind. Noticing a substantial difference in energy levels between a week vacation where i had turned the power to the stereo fully off and week where i left it in the usual standby i took a closer look. Solar panels MAY be the way of the future... but they too have their issues... 1. Without those government subsidies they are somewhat expensive. And, at least here in the USA, the "cost" and "payback time" rarely include "non-periodic maintenance" - which can be significant. 2. Technology continues to improve but some folks have pointed out that manufacturing and disposing of current solar panels are NOT especially "environmentally friendly". And many folks have pointed out that manufacturing and disposing of current Lithium Ion batteries is EXTREMELY UNFRIENDLY to the environment. 3. Again, here in the US, there are significant limitations on selling power back to the power company. AT THE MOMENT, if your solar panels produce more power than you use, you can get a credit from your power company. But remember that power companies must build and maintain enough generating capability to supply everyone at off times (like at night and on cloudy days). This sets a lower limit on the generating plants that they must build and maintain. As a result of this many US power companies have already stated that they will only be willing to "buy back" a MAXIMUM of about 5% of their power production from customers. In other words, if and when a significant number of customers install solar panels, they will find the power company unwilling to buy back or credit all of the excess power they produce. For example, in hot places with lots of sun like Arizona, solar panels can help offset peak power consumption during the day for running air conditioners. But they make no contribution to peak usage after dark... and, as of yet, we have no practical way to store the excess power for when it's needed. (And, again, at least for now, batteries are large, expensive, and environmentally very unfriendly.) And, while electric cars are steadily improving, many of these limitations apply to them as well. (Although, at least you can recharge your electric car at night, and combustion powered automobiles are FAR less fuel efficient than a typical power plant.) With energy prices skyrocketing in Europe, sustainability (and wallet) has become top of mind. Noticing a substantial difference in energy levels between a week vacation where i had turned the power to the stereo fully off and week where i left it in the usual standby i took a closer look. I don't disagree... except that we, the consumers, are at least as much to blame as they are. During the recent shortage here in the USA when fuel costs skyrocketed... Consumers were still encouraged to take family vacations that involved cross country flights or drives... Because, after all, otherwise the tourism in popular destinations would suffer, not to mention airlines and fuel companies. And, as far as I can tell, people did NOT "stay home to save gas" - even when the price was way up. (I absolutely positively NEVER saw a government sponsored TV commercial saying: "Save gas; save money; stay home this weekend".) I don't know how much Americans spend on "leisure travel".... But I'll bet that, for many, it accounts for a significant percentage of their disposable income... (And those who do so are certainly not made fun of for wasting money or fuel.) To be fair... Apparently those underground coal fires are REALLY difficult to put out... (So they are not simply "being ignored due to lack of interest".) I applaud your efforts to look at the other hand. Resources on earth are here to be managed, not abused. They are gifts from God. All are responsible for management. I use about 20% less energy than I did 3 years ago, and my lifestyle has not diminished. I was energy efficient 3 years ago. I was energy efficient 30 years ago. I keep looking for better ways to use resources. A little thought, planning, and effort, goes a long way. A little money saves money, and creates more money to save more money. A few years ago, when I was President of a condo association, I pushed/implemented policies and infrastructure that saved the community about 30% on energy costs. The savings came to about $1,500/month. The return on costs took 4 years. Not bad. No one’s lifestyle was affected, everyone had more pocket change, and savings paid for more efficient infrastructure. When I left, I gave the board plans to save about another $600/month. Plans that also had a 4 year return on costs, and would not affect anyone’s lifestyle. They did nothing. They were penny wise and dollar foolish. I am fully cognizant of my personal responsibilities. Keith, I love these little chats, but, Back to the G3P When is the FW fix coming? What will be fixed? IT’S TIME.

Hoping they fix this with firmware 3.0. It is the only issue I have been having with my XMC-2.

I also maybe wrong and its something different. What I also found is that it does not happen, when I do not touch the setup menu at all after a reboot.

I don't get them from the Xfinity X1 box either. I did get them from my TV when streaming using ARC. Is this a known issue with Apple TV? I'm kinda glad I went with the Shield Pro, I was choosing between the two. The Shield provides a mode that constantly sends an inaudible signal to keep the processor active using the current format. I believe that is what eliminates the pops and snaps.

This only happens when the audio format switches. It’s not a deal breaker.

Very true that the mining of lithium cobalt manganese etc for these batteries is terrible but some ce's like tesla are using better batteries that lose harmful minerals for simpler lithium ion phosphate [ and even sodium] extraction so the tech improves .. I also have faith that many more Tesla mega batteries will be sprouting up in Arizona Nevada and Texas as is happening now ; its disconcerting reading of the US's energy infrastructure - ours is worse www.drive.com.au/news/breakthrough-csiro-ultrabattery-goes-global/Our CSIRO is also working on the recycling problem for what its worth www.csiro.au/en/research/technology-space/energy/Energy-in-the-circular-economy/Battery-recyclingThey tried many times to put out the Centralia one even with dynamite ; they gave up mores the pity ..
