You guys need to look closer at those pictures! There are balanced XLR outputs in the picture of the rear. It has volume control and there's what looks like an infrared sensor to the right of the display, so there's probably a remote control. There are input selector buttons on the front so you can probably hook up a unique device to each input, and there are six inputs. It's certainly a fully-featured DAC.

Hi, any updates about the dac? I'm really looking for that now! Rendering, spec sheet, news? Wish granted ;D ;D ;D Final samples arriving right at the end of the month and will post actual pics then. Looks like it will be a contender! Are you guys planning to offer the black trim for this too? Doug

Great! Another silly device that I can't live without. Sorry, but did we get a ballpark price on this machine? This will be a perfect partner for my future Squeezebox Duet ;D Since the ERC-1 is $399, wouldn't a reasonable ballpark guesstimate be $299?

Agreed on the price. Also, I see a volume level on this thing. So, if you didn't need base management, you could just connect this straight to an amp, huh?
Also, any word on the small version being built too?

You are right about the possibility of using it as a preamp. However, the setup will also include analog sources, which I cannot connect to the DAC, right?! For this very reason, I have already bought a USP-1 :-)

^^Yea, I already have a USP-1 as well as a ERC-1. However, I'm thinking of things like cable TV and blu-ray (2-channel only on a secondary system). For those of us with a 2-channel system which also includes a TV, all those items are a possability, and all have coax/optical outputs. The wife said she was fine with a separate 2-channel only system in the living room (besides the home theater in the basement) because, in her words "I assume you can only do so much with 2 speakers". Good thing she doesn't get on this forum....

assuming they are using a decent DAC Chip and it is a TRUE DAC/Pre it is as good as purchased. The DAC/Pre and and XPA-2 and I will be HAPPY.

The only question i continue to have is about it is the quality of the DAC chip itself. It seems that, if you a search for it, the only application of this chip that comes up is Emo's own ERC-1. Though that CD player has indeed received rave reviews, I really want to know how it compares to other top flight DACs like the Sabre in the Peachtree Nova and the soon to be released Decco2, and the PS audio Digital link III. Those products cost anywhere from 600-1000 and have been universally accalaimed as having some of the best DACs on the market... this would match the cool emo aesthetic i have, but i would rather sacrifice looks to get a superior DAC (if indeed those DACs are superior)...

If I have a squeezebox duet, what will I gain with a DAC like this? tnt Likely a better quality DAC, than what is in the SB.

I go for the biggun.
But I suggest building it all into the XSP-1.
Otherwise make sure the XSP-1 has more than one pair of balanced inputs: 1 for the DAC and 1 for the ERC-1.
Or make a CD+DAC+Pre-amp all in one! Bad idea?

Looks like a must have. From the render it looks like there's an IR zone at the front, but no IR in socket at the back. Is this an omission from the render, or will we really have to tape emitters to the front to use it with an ir extender? =)
