I too am waiting for the XMC-1. Again, good review. I'm certain the Emotiva CD player will sound even better with the XMC-1. Emotiva is the real deal with customer service and very high quality products.
My only problem with the review is the use of the Denon AVR-3803. I junked my Denon AVR-3801 to the garage when I got my LMC-1/LPA-1 combo. The sound is night and day different. The Emotiva separates bring out sounds I've never heard from my speakers with my Denon. It would be nice to see your review with Emotiva separates instead. I think the Denon 3803 weighs about 38lbs compared to 90lbs with my entry level Emotiva separates.
Lots of details in your review, but I think with separates you would hear more of a difference because your speakers would be driven by a high quality amp that will make your speakers sing.
Thanks for your feedback. I am waiting on the XMC and have the XPA 3 now for 2CH amplificiation. I use a IScan DVO VP 20 to process all video so the Denon is more of an Audio hub but I cannot wait to upgrade it! I have to have the headphone jack as the girls(wife and daughter) go to be so early.
The next time I do a review though I have decided to use the Phonic PAA2 (Personal Audio Assist 2) which is a hand held spectrum analyzer that costs south of $300 US. I think it will do much better than the SPL only meter and I enjoy learning about sound.
I just read this thread with the great review by sticksnstones and ... wow! The review and the updates were totally amazing!
Not even in my academic life have I written with so much raw data and insight (shhh, don't tell my profs) except for one. It was a paper in my grad stats course using data from Statistics Canada analyzing immigrant employment characteristics.
I'm sure sticksnstones had a lot more fun though. Now I'm reconsidering buying the ERC-1. I've been thinking of ripping my CDs into FLAC and streaming the files through a media server.
Ah well, someone's gonna take my money away, one way or another. ;D

Wow, I wrote this over two years ago and it is amazing how much more emotiva products were added on top of the XPA-3 and ERC. Two XPA-2's, ERD, Two Ultra 12's, UMC, and new B&W 802. But I do not have the heart to redo this with the new equipment and suffice it to say I really do like my ERC.
;D ;D ;D
B&W Nautilus 802, Emotiva XMC-1, XDA-2, Two - XPA 2 bi-wired, XPA-3, ERC-1, ERDs, Two Ultra 12 subs, Anti-Mode 8033s sub calibrator, Samsung 55" LED 3D 1080P and Samsung Blu-Ray, Ultrasone HFI 780, Converter, Rolls HA43 Pro-4 ch Headphone Amp, APC H15 Power Conditioner!
