Let me start by saying that I enjoyed the video...
I found it to be both an entertaining parody and a pretty good summary of the quibbles I actually have with streaming music.
Yes, it took him several minutes to get to mentioning that it was a parody, but I like Andrew's style...
And I find it entertaining.
And, hey.... ATTENTION SPAN !
Have we really all reached a point where we can't spend a few minutes "waiting for someone to get to the point".
I might even suggest that the very fact that so many people couldn't wait for the punch line is an excellent parody of "modern sound-bite life".
Were you really watching the video to find out why Andrew thinks streaming music sucks... so you could agree or disagree with him?
I didn't watch the video to learn some new and critically important fact... I watched it to be entertained... and I was.
As for streaming...
Yes,it's really convenient to be able to find almost any song or album you want at the push of a button...
And, yes, it's a great way to be exposed to new and interesting music...
And, yes, it's nice to be able to tell Alexa "play Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon", and have it just start playing...
But it gets a bit more complicated if you specifically want to hear the Mobile Fidelity UDCD version... which does sound rather different than the other versions.
And it gets a lot more complicated if you want to hear that other gold CD version of Dark Side of the Moon... the one with the unusual equalization... that was only released in Japan...
I picked that example because there are several dozen different versions of Dark Side of the Moon...
And several of them sound quite different from each other...
But only a few streaming services have more than one or two of them...
And a lot of streaming services don't even bother to tell you which version of an album you're listening to...
(And, not to nit-pick, but good luck even figuring out if what you're hearing on Tidal is the real original - or an "MQA enhanced version of the original".)
I also agree with Andrew's suggestion that all of the streaming services have somewhat complicated interfaces that you have to get used to.
And, with many of them, the interface is different on different devices, and you get different options on each...
(Think fast: Can I play the 24/96k-2.0 version of DSOTM, from the Immersion set, on an iPhone, using airplay, at 96k, or will it get down-sampled to 48k?)
And all of this collectively is why I still have actual copies of my favorite albums on an actual music server...
Each of the dozen different versions of Dark Side of the Moon is clearly identified...
And I have no problem at all finding and playing the one I want...
And I can do that without having to worry about which playlist is available on which platform or on what device...
And, yes, I CAN play the 24/96k-2.0 version of DSOTM, from the Immersion set, on my local server, and it really will play bit-perfect at 96k.)
HOWEVER I absolutely agree with Andrew's final point - for those who actually watched the entire video....
Which is that the whole point is being able to listen to the music... so, as long as whatever method you choose for doing so satisfies YOU, that's all that counts.
