Got mine in 3 days with the S&M disc, then the AIX disc arrived a week later. I'm still waiting for the last order I placed with Amazon. Had a scheduled delivery date of 25 Sept. Today is 0ct 3 and still a no show.

If Amazon is an authorized dealer, and right now they have free shipping I'd buy from them. Oppo is charging for shipping, though you'd be getting it from the manufacturer. Will you be taking advantage of the DVD-A & SACD capabilities?

Allen,
Buy it directly from Oppo. You can also purchase an extended warranty if you desire. You will get the most current firmware updates and any disks that they have included or sent to prior customers. Additionally, customer support asks where you purchased the unit, and I think it gives you "brownie points" to say fro Oppo!

It probably doesn't matter but I am fortunate to be only 15 minutes away from the Oppo US office. I was able to meet the staff and general manager when I picked up my Oppo 970HD at the time. Saved me the shipping charges since I picked it up at their office. All very nice people and passionate about their products.

I mentioned (in that expert casual way that I've honed over the years) to the wife that we're getting a new blueray player the other day and she stopped in her tracks, which was a huge statement for her since she's so mellow (and not a good statement). I had to suppress a laugh and it took everything I had not to guffaw. And why do we need another blueray player? What's wrong with the Sony? [accesses the well rehearsed speech] Ahem, well, nothing is wrong with the Sony but we'll need one in the bedroom . . eventually. We don't even have high def in the bedroom! uuhhhh . . well, true, not yet. That was the wrong thing to say. Of course, the smooth operator that I am ( ) I've managed to fix things . . just so long as I sell some of the extra gear I have lying around, which is a fair trade. I hope to procure the Oppo this month . . . *crosses fingers*

Oh, you forgot to mention the snakes! The Sony Blu-Ray players are assembled in Ma Lay Szha. I understand a number of owners of the Sony players have had little baby green tree vipers slither out of the loading tray mechanism when attempting to insert the Blu-Ray disc. (If your wife for some reason likes snakes then substitute the 2" reddish brown giant Asian cockroaches). Hope this helps.
Allen, I love my Oppo 83. All the reviews are drooling over this machine. The PQ on the Blu-Ray as well as standard DVDs is the best and the SACD/DVD-Audio is great. My only complaint is that while the build quality is very good, Oppo could take a lesson from Emo in product aesthetics, IMO. I can't even read the control marking on the 4 way control on the front panel and always have to use the remote.
It is worth every penny and is a great value. ;D

That's crazy! The Oppo does look rather basic, doesn't it? Sort of like those old Plymouth K cars. But Emo gear isn't that fancy, either. However, every time I pass by the rack and see them all stacked in the shelf, I say to myself, man those sure look sweet!!

Sure, why do you think those Sony Blu-Ray players were taking so long to load (especially when trying to load the movie Anaconda or Mega Snake and even the Academy Award winning Kiss My Snake).

Its a balance, that's for sure. I will have zero questions or problems if I tell her I'm selling some of the unused gear that I have lying around (beleive me, there's a bunch . . I haven't been fessing up on the forum what I've acquired . .) I will get it this week hopefully. From Oppo for those interested. Thanks.
